For this analysis, we’ll be looking at career this officially-graded GRE Argument essay. Here’s the prompt the essay was written in tok points, response to: In surveys Mason City residents rank water sports (swimming, boating and coursework juliet romeo, fishing) among their favorite recreational activities. The Mason River flowing through the extended essay, city is on life and death, rarely used for these pursuits, however, and extended, the city park department devotes little of its budget to maintaining riverside recreational facilities. For years there have been complaints from residents about the quality of the river’s water and the river’s smell. In response, the state has recently announced plans to clean up Mason River. Use of the river for water sports is career goals in accounting essay, therefore sure to increase.

The city government should for that reason devote more money in this year’s budget to riverside recreational facilities. Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the essay tok points, argument. Master S Thesis Tense! Be sure to explain how the argument depends on the assumptions and what the implications are if the assumptions prove unwarranted. The sample Argument essay we’ll be looking at discusses and disputes three different assumptions made by the argument : That the extended essay tok points, survey is a reliable measure of preferences and should be used as a source of information to inform budget planning. That there is a link between the river’s odor and pollution and that i love, the lack of residents’ recreational use of the river. That plans to clean up Mason River will be effective.

To analyze this essay, I’ll highlight places where the essay fulfills each of the criteria for the 6.0 GRE Writing score level. The first of essay tok points, these rubric criteria is a description of what a perfect-scoring Argument essay should look like overall: Rubric description : In addressing the specific task directions, a 6 response presents a cogent, well-articulated examination of the argument and conveys meaning skillfully. This description of what a perfect Argument essay should look like is much more general than the rest of the other rubric items and is more meant as a summary of romeo, what the extended essay tok points, other four items indicate than as a specific criterion in and of itself. If an essay meets all of the other four rubric requirements for a 6.0 Argument essay score, then it should fit under this broader description as well; if it does not, then that can be an indicator to the essay rater that she needs to reassess her scoring of the essay. Above: portrait of a sad essay grader who, upon re-reading the holistic essay grading criteria, now has to essays on life and death, reassess his scoring. The first non-general Argument essay rubric item relates to whether or not an essay accomplishes the assigned task. Rubric description : A 6 essay clearly identifies aspects of the argument relevant to the assigned task and examines them insightfully.

The sample essay succeeds in meeting both parts of this criterion. In the essay, the author pinpoints three different assumptions of the argument (survey is reliable, water being dirty is why people don’t use it for extended tok points recreational sports, and cleaning it will work). Each of essays, these claims is extended tok points, a key assumption upon which the argument depends, since if any one of these three claims proved unfounded, then the argument becomes illogical. The author also “examines [the assumptions] insightfully” by discussing the implications of each assumption and what it would mean for the argument were the assumptions to prove false . If the author had merely identified the key elements of the argument without this kind of discussion, the essay would have received a lower score. Below is an excerpt from the master s thesis tense, essay that illustrates an instance of the author fulfilling this criterion: “If the river’s water quality and smell result from problems which can be cleaned, [that a river clean up will result in increased river usage] may be true… But if the quality and aroma results from the natural mineral deposits in extended essay tok points, the water or surrounding rock, this may not be true.”

In this excerpt, the author points out an assumption of the argument (that the quality and coursework juliet, smell problems from the river can be dealt with) and presents the implications if the assumption is unwarranted (if the problems are from mineral deposits, quality and smell change might not be possible). The clear way in which the extended, author gets to the point (if A, then B may be true…but if not A, then B may not be true) and the insight she uses in determining why the essay, assumption might not be true and what effect that might have all contribute to this essay achieving a 6-level score. “You don’t have to be a detective to extended tok points, write the essay, but it helps*!” * does not actually help. All you need is scientific hypothesis, adequate preparation. The next specific rubric item delves into the logic of the author’s writing and extended essay, the organization of the essay. Rubric description : A 6 essay develops ideas cogently, organizes them logically and connects them with clear transitions.

While the previous rubric item is concerned with the author’s ability to pick apart the logic of the argument in the prompt, this item focuses in on the author’s own writing style and her ability to logically develop and connect ideas in the Argument essay. GRE guidelines for both the Issue and Argument essay place a premium on clear logic and organization, both in terms of master, how ideas are linked within a paragraph as well as on a larger scale. For the Argument essay, it makes sense to group your discussion of each assumption into essay tok points, its own separate paragraph. However, if you want to get a perfect essay score, you can’t just throw in information about the assumption and its implications willy-nilly, without a care for its organization. Instead, you must make sure that each of your points about the assumption is goals essay, directly followed by support for that point. Tok Points! This clarity of development allows the a paper on management, reader to follow your logic more easily, which in turn makes your essay that much more persuasive and essay, effective. In the Argument essay, organization and logic are also important when it comes to essay, ordering the paragraphs of tok points, your essay and transitioning between ideas. Here’s an example of a transition that connects the essays, ideas of two consecutive paragraphs: “Building upon the implication that residents do not use the river due to the quality of the essay tok points, river’s water and the smell, the essays, author suggests that a river clean up will result in increased river usage.” This sentence begins the fourth paragraph of the essay and logically transitions to the new assumption about to be discussed (“river clean up will result in increased river usage”) by referencing the idea just discussed in the third paragraph (“residents do not use the river due to the quality of the river’s water and the smell”). The sentence structure “building upon the implication that…the author suggests that” connects the two ideas skillfully, strengthening the link between the two paragraph by framing it as a logical progression.

The clear and logical way in tok points, which the author develops her points within each paragraph and the tight organizational connections between paragraphs are how the essay exemplifies this rubric item. On the tense, other hand, a dirty river means more residents on the river trying to clean it up, so…at least there’s that? Gabriela Avram/Flickr. Want to improve your GRE score by 7 points? The third non-general item on the GRE Argument essay rubric is focused entirely on coursework romeo, how well the author supports her points. Rubric description : A 6 essay provides compelling and thorough support for its main points. Essentially, this rubric item is all about determining whether or not an essay author properly supports her ideas and their development throughout the essay. Correctly identifying assumptions and examining them in a logical and organized way is all very well and and death, good and satisfies the extended, first two rubric criteria, but if you don’t support your analysis with either scenarios from the argument or hypothetical scenarios that could also explain assumptions made in the argument, you’re not going to get a perfect score. Here’s an excerpt from the essay that demonstrates an instance of “compelling and thorough support”: “Additionally, the author implies that residents do not use the hypothesis, river for swimming, boating, and fishing, despite their professed interest, because the extended essay tok points, water is polluted and smelly.

While a polluted, smelly river would likely cut down on river sports, a concrete connection between the master s thesis, resident’s lack of extended essay tok points, river use and the river’s current state is not effectively made. Though there have been complaints, we do not know if there have been numerous complaints from a wide range of in accounting essay, people, or perhaps from one or two individuals who made numerous complaints.” The first sentence of this excerpt lays out the assumption made in the argument: the reason people don’t use the water for sport is because it’s dirty and odiferous. The next two sentences support the author’s claim that this assumption is unfounded in two important ways: #1: The author singles out a particular way in which the tok points, argument is flawed , stating that “a concrete connection…is not effectively made” between two specific claims linked in the argument. #2: The author explains why the argument is flawed by essays presenting relevant details, like the fact that the extended tok points, source of the complaints is unknown and could potentially be just a few people. The reasoning and support used by the author in her essay are effective because the hypothesis, author explains clearly the ways in which they support her points. If the author had just said, “There is tok points, no clear connection between the lack of river use and the river’s polluted state because it could just be a few people complaining,” the that i love, link between the number of people complaining and why this matters for the validity of the complaints would’ve been unclear and the support would be less compelling. The final rubric area for the Argument essay has to extended essay tok points, do with how skillfully an essay is written and how well it adheres to the standards of hypothesis essay, written English. Rubric description : A 6 essay conveys ideas fluently and precisely, using effective vocabulary and sentence variety.

Demonstrates superior facility with the conventions of standard written English (i.e., grammar, usage and extended essay, mechanics), but may have minor errors. This last group of career goals essay, items on extended tok points, the Argument essay rubric gets into and death, the mechanics of essay tok points, how well the author writes. The two ways in which this is effected are through the precise use of language and general dearth of errors . Essays On Life And Death! Here’s an example of an effective use of language in the sample essay: “While a polluted, smelly river would likely cut down on extended essay tok points, river sports, a concrete connection between the resident’s lack of land that, river use and the river’s current state is not effectively made.” The precise language in this sentence successfully differentiates between the “likely” correlation that is made in essay, the prompt and the “concrete connection” that is not made. This differentiation bolster’s the author’s point that the assumption made in the argument is unwarranted. The second part of this set of rubric items has to do with the coursework juliet romeo, author’s ability to write in standard English without making too many errors.

This is demonstrated throughout the mostly error-free sample essay; the extended tok points, errors that do remain, like “afffected” in a paper, paragraph four, do not impede the reader’s understanding of extended tok points, what the author is trying to say. This last point is a good distillation of what all the rubric items for a perfect-scoring essay are trying to capture: a 6.0 GRE Argument essay is scientific hypothesis essay, one that is clear and precise, whether in ideas, analysis, support, development, organization, or language . The river’s “CURRENT” state, get it? See, it’s funny because it’s also a river, so it has its own current, so…you know what, I’ll just see myself out. Karyn Christner/Flickr. 6 Steps to a 6.0: GRE Argument Essay Tips. To finish up this discussion of the essay rubric, I’ll go over the six GRE Argument essay tips you need to ensure a high score. One of the core skills you must master in extended essay tok points, order to score at all well on the GRE Argument essay is being able to analyze the structure and logic of the career goals, arguments , rather than getting caught up in whether you agree or disagree with the points being made. It may be difficult to do this at first, as it can be hard to be objective when the subject being argued about is one you have firm opinions on or when the logical flaws of the argument are so obvious it drives you crazy. Part of practicing and preparing for extended essay the GRE Argument essay task, though, is learning how to channel that irritation and outrage into an unflinching analysis and explanation of how the argument works and land essays, where it falls apart. The Mason River flowing through the city is extended tok points, rarely used for writing these pursuits, however, and the city park department devotes little of extended, its budget to maintaining riverside recreational facilities.

Use of the that i love essays, river for water sports is essay tok points, therefore sure to increase. The city government should for that reason devote more money in this year’s budget to riverside recreational facilities. Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument.

Be sure to explain how the argument depends on the assumptions and what the implications are if the assumptions prove unwarranted. There’s a lot of information in the prompt to mull over, and it can be tempting to leap into essays on life, analyzing the first problematic assumption you notice, even if isn’t a major issue. Don’t fall prey to this temptation! It may be true that the extended essay tok points, prompt assumes that water sports can only be perpetrated on a river (rather than in a pool or the ocean), but the argument depends on this fact far less than it does on the assumption that the river’s bad smell and quality is why Mason City residents rarely use the scientific hypothesis essay, Mason River for water sports. The importance of extended essay, keeping your analysis to major points is supported by on life the ideas and tok points, analysis rubric item: a 4-scoring essay “may also discuss some extraneous points”, while a 6-scoring essay only covers “aspects of the argument relevant to the assigned task.” Boating in scientific hypothesis essay, a pool is totally possible. Extended Essay! These guys get it. Baltimore RecNParks/Flickr. How to Find Resumes on the Internet with Google. Want to learn how to find resumes on the Internet using Google? You’ve come to the right place! Whether you are new to searching the essay tok points, Internet for resumes or you are a veteran Interent sourcer, I’ve included some tips, tricks, and observations for the novice and expert alike. When using Google to search specifically for resumes, it’s a good idea to begin by searching for the word “resume” in the title and/or the url of web pages. For example: (intitle:resume OR inurl:resume) Here is essay, a sample result to illustrate how this works – we can see the extended, word “Resume” in the blue TITLE line, as well as in the green URL line.

The first line of any search result is the hypothesis essay, title of the webpage, and the url is the specific web page’s address. Targeting the word “resume” in the title and/or url is very handy, because for essay many people, it’s simply common sense/instinct to either title the web page containing their resume with the word “resume,” and/or save their resume using the word “resume” in the name of the file. Eliminating False Positive Results. A “false positive” result is a search result that contains your search terms, but does not match the “essence” of what you are actually trying to find. For example – if you’re searching for resumes, there are many sites that will be returned in your search results that are in fact not resumes, such as sites advertising resume samples and job postings that mention phrases such as, “submit resumes to…”

In order to remove most non-resume false positive results, you can use Google’s version of the Boolean NOT operator, which is the coursework juliet romeo, minus sign, to prevent your search from returning results with words such as sample, job, etc. (intitle:resume OR inurl:resume) -job -jobs -sample -samples. Other ideas of terms you can try to eliminate that may return false positive results: -eoe -submit -free -”resume service” -template -”resume service” -“resume writers” -“resume writing” Some people who decide to make their resume available on extended essay, the Internet also decide to publish a phone number. To find these folks, you can try and hypothesis, include local area codes in extended essay, your search in attempt to find them. Here is an that essays example of a search using area codes to target people who live in Northern VA: (intitle:resume OR inurl:resume) -job -jobs -sample -samples -“resume service” (703 OR 571)

What you’ll notice, however, is that searching for extended area codes can easily produce false positive results, as can be seen in the screenshot below – which are the s thesis tense, first 4 results from the extended essay tok points, search. I Love Essays. Result #3 and #4 mention the number 571, but it’s not referenced as an extended area code, so they are false positive, non-local results. To clean up the false positive results that mention 571 or 703 but are not of resumes of people who live in VA, you can add the writing, state and extended essay, state abbreviation to the search as well as exclude more non-resume terms and phrases: While there are still a good number of non-resume false positive results, this can be expected because we didn’t even search for scientific hypothesis essay any keywords/skills. Once we do, we will notice a significant drop off in false positives. Another way to search for local resumes is to extended essay target a zip code radius.

While Google doesn’t support true zip code search functionality, we can leverage the fact that Google supports searching for numbers within a range, otherwise known as “numrange” search. You can perform a numrange search on any sequential (low to master tense high) set of numbers by typing two periods between the numbers without any spaces. Extended Essay Tok Points. This is especially helpful because we can exploit this search functionality and adapt it to performing a zip code radius search. For example, take your target zip code and use this handy zip code radius lookup application, which you can use to search for zip codes in a radius and sort the zip codes within the radius from writing low to high. Using a central zip code of 75201 in Dallas, TX and targeting a 20 mile radius, we can use that zip code radius application to get a range of zip codes from a low zip code of 75001 to a high zip code of 76155. Using Google’s numrange search syntax, here is an example of a search string targeting people within a 20-mile radius of 75201 in TX: Sample results: you can see the zip code search worked beautifully: Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when searching for essay tok points local resumes: Not everyone will publish a phone number on their resume If they do publish a phone number on their resume, it could be a cell phone with a non-local area code if they relocated from another area – this is why is can be helpful to search for zip codes as well as area codes If they don’t publish a phone number at all, they should at land i love essays least mention a city and/or state. Targeting Resumes That Are Not Titled As “Resume” Although plenty of people do title their resume or the web page containing their resume with the word “resume,” there are some people who don’t.

After searching for extended essay all of the results that DO contain the career, word “resume” in the URL or title of the web page, you need to try to eliminate them from future search results using Google’s NOT operator, the minus sign, to tok points specifically target the results that don’t mention resume in the title or URL. For example: Don’t be tempted to try and writing a paper on management, write that as -(inurl:resume OR intitle:resume), because Google will not read that search string in the manner in which you intend. Instead of eliminating results with the extended essay tok points, word “resume” in either the URL or the title, Google will in fact will do the exact opposite. Click here to see the sad reality. Sorry Google. Next, you’ll have to think about words that are commonly found on resumes, such as “objective,” “summary,” “experience,” “employment,” “skills,” “history,” “education,” etc. Tense. Then you’ll have to try and reduce false positive results of job postings, resume sample sites and such, and also target local results. Putting it all together, your search string could look like this: First page results: We can see that the extended, first result is essentially of a resume, yet the person saved their work history as “biodata.” See?

Some people don’t use the word resume. Writing A Paper. :-) Looking at the second result, we can see that the word “resume” is actually highlighted in the url of the second result – which technically should not happen, as we coupled Google’s NOT/- operator with inurl:resume. Yet more proof that Boolean search does not = Internet search. Essay. That’s 2 strikes, Google. The third result is definitely not a resume – it is a LinkedIn directory by name, within which is at least one positive hit on our search terms. While there are no doubt resumes on the Internet that do not mention the word “resume,” anywhere within them, I have found that when you stray from targeting the word “resume” in web page titles and URLs, you can quickly find yourself swimming in a sea of false positive results, which is a huge time drain. I believe the 80/20 Pareto principle solidly applies here: You will get 80% of your viable results from targeted resume searches and the other 20% from essays on life and death searching without targeting the tok points, word “resume.” Likewise, you can easily waste 80% of your time trying to sort through the sea of false positives in order to dig up the essays on life, 20% of resumes that do not mention the term. I’ve provided you with a quick overview of how to extended essay tok points effectively utilize Google to search for resumes on the Internet. Be aware though – all is not perfect in on management, when hunting for tok points resumes in Google land – if you have not already, please read these 2 posts: The Internet has Free Resumes – So What?and Boolean search does not = Internet search. For those of writing, you who read this post and essay, asked why I: didn’t talk about searching for hypothesis essay CV’s didn’t suggest using the tilde.

operator in conjuntion with the word “resume” didn’t use - job when trying to eliminate false positive results didn’t talk about targeting filetypes didn’t talk about just searching for extended tok points the word “resume” without using it in conjunction with inurl: or intitle: didn’t mention Google CSE’s. Anchor babies, birthright citizenship, and the 14th Amendment. The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads in extended essay tok points, part: Babies born to illegal alien mothers within U.S. borders are called anchor babies because under the 1965 immigration Act, they act as an anchor that pulls the illegal alien mother and eventually a host of other relatives into permanent U.S. residency. ( Jackpot babies is another term). Post-Civil War reforms focused on injustices to African Americans. The 14 th Amendment was ratified in 1868 to protect the rights of native-born Black Americans, whose rights were being denied as recently-freed slaves. It was written in a manner so as to that, prevent state governments from ever denying citizenship to blacks born in the United States. But in 1868, the extended tok points United States had no formal immigration policy, and the authors therefore saw no need to address immigration explicitly in the amendment. Senator Jacob Howard worked closely with Abraham Lincoln in drafting and passing the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which abolished slavery.

He also served on the Senate Joint Committee on Reconstruction, which drafted the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. In 1866, Senator Jacob Howard clearly spelled out the intent of the 14 th Amendment by writing: The phrase subject to the jurisdiction thereof was intended to exclude American-born persons from automatic citizenship whose allegiance to the United States was not complete. With illegal aliens who are unlawfully in that i love, the United States, their native country has a claim of allegiance on the child. Thus, the completeness of their allegiance to the United States is extended essay tok points, impaired, which therefore precludes automatic citizenship. The correct interpretation of the 14 th Amendment is that an essays illegal alien mother is subject to extended tok points, the jurisdiction of hypothesis her native country, as is extended, her baby. Writing! Over a century ago, the Supreme Court correctly confirmed this restricted interpretation of extended citizenship in the so-called 'Slaughter-House cases' [83 US 36 (1873)] and in [112 US 94 (1884)]. In Elk v.Wilkins , the phrase 'subject to its jurisdiction' excluded from its operation 'children of ministers, consuls, and citizens of foreign states born within the on management United States.' In Elk , the American Indian claimant was considered not an American citizen because the extended essay tok points law required him to be 'not merely subject in some respect or degree to the jurisdiction of the United States, but completely subject to their political jurisdiction and owing them direct and romeo immediate allegiance.' Congress subsequently passed a special act to grant full citizenship to American Indians, who were not citizens even through they were born within the borders of the United States. Extended! The Citizens Act of 1924, codified in 8USCS?1401, provides that: (a) a person born in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof; (b) a person born in the United States to a member of an Indian, Eskimo, Aleutian, or other aboriginal tribe. The original intent of the writing a paper 14 th Amendment was clearly not to facilitate illegal aliens defying U.S. law and obtaining citizenship for their offspring, nor obtaining benefits at essay, taxpayer expense.

Current estimates indicate there may be over 300,000 anchor babies born each year in the U.S., thus causing illegal alien mothers to add more to the U.S. population each year than immigration from all sources in an average year before 1965. Australia rescinded birthright citizenship in 2007, as did New Zealand in 2006, Ireland in 2005, France in 1993, and the United Kingdom in 1983. This leaves the juliet romeo United States and Canada as the only remaining industrialized nations to grant automatic citizenship to every person born within the borders of the country, irrespective of tok points their parents' nationality or immigration status. American citizens must be wary of elected politicians voting to illegally extend our generous social benefits to illegal aliens and other criminals. The goal of this strategy is to cram in as many as possible of the desired components in the 50 minutes you've got.

In this article, we give you 15 key tips for the SAT essay. The first five tips in this article relate to what the extended essay College Board tells us about what's a good essay. And the essays on life last five tips for extended essay, SAT essay writing show you how to build an SAT essay, step by juliet, step. What the College Board Does Tell You: 5 Tips. The College Board explains the essay tok points main components of the successful SAT Essay in its scoring criteria. Here they are condensed: The SAT essay rubric states: The response includes a precise central claim.” What this means is that your essay needs to scientific hypothesis, make a clear argument that the reader can easily identify. Fortunately, the SAT provides you with the passage’s main idea, so you don’t have to go hunting for it yourself.

Now, here's an example of a thesis statement for an essay responding to this prompt: In the article “Monsters Monsters Everywhere,” Sam Lindsay uses personal anecdotes, vivid language, and appeals to emotion to persuade her audience that more works of art should feature monsters. Plus, an introduction can be a pretty good indicator of the quality for the rest of the essay – a poorly constructed introduction is often a warning that the essay that follows will be equally discombobulated. It's best to have both an introduction and land that i love essays, a conclusion, but if you’re running short on essay tok points time and can only have one, definitely pick the introduction. A good introduction includes your thesis statement. Introductions can be tricky to write, because whatever you write in extended essay tok points, that paragraph can then make you feel like you’re locked into writing just about that. If you’re struggling, leave yourself 10 blank lines at the beginning of the essay and jump into writing your body paragraphs. Just make sure you remember to go back and essay, write in your introduction before time’s up! #3: Use Effective Language and Word Choice. There are a couple of parts of the Writing score section on the SAT essay rubric that pertain directly to extended essay tok points, style.

First, the coursework juliet SAT essay rubric states: The response is cohesive and demonstrates a highly effective use and command of language. For most of us, this is an area that takes a long time to develop, so unless your language skills are really rough or you're prepping a year ahead of time (or both), you'll probably get more out of focusing on the other components of the essay. The SAT essay rubric also states: “The response has a wide variety in sentence structures. The response demonstrates a consistent use of precise word choice. The response maintains a formal style and objective tone.”

This basically boils down to: don't be repetitive and don't make grammar mistakes.
