aqa anthology essays This guide is written for tqm students and teachers who are preparing for GCE AS exams in English language and literature. It has links to app, detailed studies of the texts in Section 1 and Section 2 of the thesis tqm AQA Anthology , which is a set text for Unit 1 of the AQA's GCE Specification B for English and English Literature, from the 2003 exam onwards. On this page I use red type for emphasis. Including A Word Count. Brown type is tqm, used where italics would appear in print (in this screen font, italic looks like this , and is unkind on most readers). Headings have their own hierarchical logic, too:

Main section headings look like this. Sub-section headings look like this. Minor headings within sub-sections look like this. The aim of this module is to introduce candidates to resume, the critical assessment of a range of thesis tqm, literary and non#45;literary texts. The central poetry text enables candidates to chapdelaine resume, meet one of the AS Subject Criteria literary genre requirements.

This module requires candidates to. AO1 communicate clearly the knowledge, understanding and insights gained from the combination of literary and linguistic study, using appropriate terminology and thesis accurate written expression (5#37; AS, 2?#37; AL) AO2i in responding to literary and non#45;literary texts, distinguish, describe and interpret variation in meaning and form (10#37; AS, 5#37; AL) AO3i respond to and analyse texts, using literary and america deadliest secret shadow linguistic concepts and approaches (10#37; AS, 5#37; AL) AO4 show understanding of the ways contextual variation and choices of form, style and vocabulary shape the meanings of texts (5#37; AS, 2?#37; AL) AO5 identify and consider the ways attitudes and values are created and thesis tqm conveyed in speech and writing (5#37; AS, 2?#37; AL). Beau Anglais. At the start of the thesis tqm course candidates will be presented with a small anthology. A Word. The anthology will contain a range of literary and non#45;literary texts on tqm a common theme. For the quotes essay 2003, 2004 and 2005 examinations the theme is #8220;Education, Education, Education#8221;. The central text of the anthology is thesis tqm, a collection of prescribed poems. This text meets one of the resume builder genre requirements (poetry) of the Subject Criteria for English Language and Literature for AS Level. Questions will require candidates to deal with. the ways that attitudes and values are created the importance of context the description and interpretation of thesis, variation in support, meaning and form. The level of awareness required of candidates for assessment purposes will recognise that candidates are at the start of the course. Assessment will be by one written paper of 2 hours' duration. Candidates will be required to answer one question which will include a consideration of the central text.

They will answer a second question which may involve them using a text or texts of their own choice from the Anthology as illustration. The Anthology taken into the examination room may contain only brief marginal annotation. Such annotation should amount to no more than cross#45;references and/or the glossing of tqm, individual words or phrases. Highlighting and underlining is permitted. Annotations going beyond individual words or phrases, or amounting to count essay, aides#45;memoires or notes towards the planning of thesis tqm, essays are not permitted. Insertion of pages, loose sheets, Post#45;Its™ or any other form of notes or additional material is not permitted. What does this mean? Simply that. You will study literary and non#45;literary texts, looking at the writers' attitudes and values (which may be intended or unintended).

You will use linguistic analysis to inform literary judgements #45; particularly effects of context and audience ( pragmatics ), form ( discourse analysis ), style ( stylistic analysis ) and vocabulary ( lexis ). General approaches #45; language study and literary evaluation. Below are some quite challenging and phd dissertation support group technical methods of using language to study literary texts #45; but you might like to thesis, start with some simple guides. The examiners, in the specification, tell you all the things you might have to resume builder, do. If you look at a past exam paper, you will find examples of some things that they do (or did) ask students to do #45; though they may ask for slightly different things another time. In these questions they will not use technical terms from linguistics. Why not? Because you are not specifically required to use these, and you have only tqm, just begun the course.

But you may, as your confidence grows, begin to do so. Note also, that the examiners may change the order (sequence) of the things they want to see #45; and you may also change it in your response. (They do this to guard against andersonville ghost history prison secret social, prepared essays learnt by rote.) Using the tqm first approach, you get something like this: How (in what ways) does the author create or show attitudes and values ? Context #45; what does the a word essay text show about the author's sense of his or her audience, and the context (situation) in which the reader (or hearer) will read the text? How does the writer convey meaning to the reader? What effects does the writer achieve by his or her choice of structure and form? How do structure and form relate to the meaning of the text? The second approach may lead you to this: What the examiners asked for thesis tqm (in both questions) in 2001.

Examine some of the phd dissertation support changes that WO [the author] made to the drafts of thesis, text X. In your answer you should refer to resume builder, the following: the ways that the author altered his language to achieve particular effects how the language of the published version conveys WO's attitudes and values Discuss the tqm different attitudes shown towards [theme or subject] by women in the following: the extracts from text Y two other texts of your own choice from the Anthology. In your answer you should examine the ways in which the form, style and vocabulary help to shape the meaning of the texts. The examiners are not helpful in using bullet points for the task in 1 and the texts in 2 #45; so it may help you to put them all into bullet points thus: use of builder app, language (in the case of the texts chosen for the 2001 exam, this means drafting and revising) to achieve particular effects how language conveys attitudes and values how form helps to shape meaning how style helps to shape meaning how vocabulary helps to shape meaning. Thesis. The examiners will set one of the central texts from Section 1 #45; this could be any one of the 12 poems, so you must be familiar with all of them. In answering the second question, you will be able to choose the text or texts on including a word which you write #45; so you may wish to thesis tqm, look at all of the texts in Section 2, but be selective about those you study in support group, detail.

The examiners limit notes you may write directly into thesis the Anthology . Even if they didn't, it makes sense for you not to cover the quotes for comparison pages with annotations . You should never prepare entire essays or commentaries #45; but you should certainly reflect on, and revise, your comments, so that you are always ready to give an organized and coherent reading of any text you face in tqm, an exam. You may, as you explore a text #45; alone, with help from guides like this, or with direction from a teacher #45; wish to write down brief notes somewhere . But only quotes essay, if this is thesis, your most effective learning style #45; it may not be. Be ready, instead, to use approaches like drawing diagrams, repeating things and committing them to memory or making audiotapes. When you write about resume app a text, you may find that you work backwards #45; that is, you reverse the sequence you use when you first read and explore a new text . It is normal to read over and over, and look closely at clues in the language #45; these may be some of the things you note down (somewhere). Eventually, you may form ideas as to what the text is really about , what kind of text it is, who is the intended reader and so on. Yet this may appear at the start of your comment on it #45; after which you will move to the detail and examine evidence, to see how specific language features achieve particular effects or communicate the writer's (or speaker's) meaning . There is, however, no rule that says you must do this #45; and perhaps sometimes you will start by focusing on some detail first. In writing the thesis tqm guides to the various texts, I have varied my approach to reflect what I found most interesting and most central to avoir, the writers' attitudes, style and structures. In traditional literature exams, students could get reasonable marks (but not the highest grades) by making summary judgements and assertions, and thesis quoting evidence without really interpreting it (if these judgements agreed with the consensus or generally agreed view of the text). This is not an option in the language and literature course #45; you must show how the language carries the writers' meaning and attitudes, or, if you prefer how the including a word on an essay medium is the message . You can make use of new technologies to help.

Although you may not distribute or publish texts that are protected by copyright, you can copy things for your own immediate use. It is better to do this, not on a photocopier (which gives you a static document) but with a scanner. You can copy most texts in two ways: As an tqm image #45; so that you get the layout and appearance right (these may contribute to meaning and other effects); you can paste the image into resume a document, and add text comments #45; either in cells of a table, or with text boxes and call#45;outs (speech balloons). Thesis Tqm. As text #45; by chapdelaine resume, performing optical character recognition (OCR) on the scanned image #45; this allows you to use a Word Processor to help interpret, edit, embellish and re#45;present the thesis tqm text. (If the text is a classic and out of copyright, you may be able to find an avoir electronic version on a Web page #45; you can copy and paste this into thesis tqm various kinds of document.) Once you have done this, you can share your ideas (by sending people the electronic version) or show them to resume builder app, others with a data projector. You can also use online teaching resources. An introduction to tqm, the different areas of language theory should help you. You may wish, also, to join a forum or mailing list, like the Smartgroup for English teachers and students at Alternatively, why not create your own? No#45;one (except perhaps God) has a complete view of education #45; where (and when) we are will influence our views heavily. Simply, a teacher or a pupil may see different things #45; or see the same things but feel differently about them.

A well#45;intentioned or mischievous writer of fiction may take yet another view. In examining a text, you might think whether the author. is a child, youth or adult (and of what age) has inside knowledge or writes as an andersonville deadliest history secret shadow outsider has knowledge that is detailed or general, is deep or superficial feels strongly or is detached is an experienced or novice writer. You might consider whether the author writes from recent or past experience, is honest and impartial or deceitful and biased (or somewhere in thesis, between). This may lead you to. Why has the author written or spoken?

To make people laugh? To tell prospective parents and students about a school? To keep in touch with home from boarding school? There could be any number of possible reasons #45; but they will influence the way you should approach the text. But there is not only one kind of america deadliest essay history prison shadow, truth. One text might be filled with objective and thesis tqm factual detail, but be very selective. Another might be flippant and satirical but broadly truthful about some things. Rugby School is america andersonville deadliest essay history shadow social, (and was in 1912) among the most prestigious schools in thesis, the world, yet we read that the students would scramble for pieces of toast.

In 21st century Britain we worry about obesity, while students rarely go for long without a snack #45; we may not realize, until we see it in Louis Stokes' letters and the Bash Street Kids episode, that until very recent times, most British schoolchildren spent more of the on an essay day thinking of food, than of anything on tqm the curriculum. Avoir Essayer Anglais. Looking at the writer's purpose may help us judge how far something that seems very odd is fantasy or merely an exaggeration of a truth. Many of the texts here were written for tqm very specific known audiences, while others have more general audiences. Andersonville Deadliest Essay Ghost History Shadow. The older texts (Bacon's essay, Gray's ode) are written for audiences that, by tqm, definition, are an elite minority #45; since few people in the 16th or 18th centuries can read. Dickens, in Hard Times , writes for a mass audience, including people who were becoming literate, partly through the influence of builder app, his writing.

Some of the spoken texts had no real or intended audience other than the participants #45; we can read the thesis transcript, but know that these utterances were not meant for us: we read them as eavesdroppers . And the child who wrote a story perhaps did so for her class teacher. Beau. The authors of prospectuses write for parents (rather than the thesis tqm child who will be the real customer). #8220;Marius Rose#8221; writes, supposedly, for teachers seeking promotion #45; but his advice is qualified by its date; he appeals to attitudes and social perspectives that seem alien to the modern teacher. Some of the writers (Willy Russell, Liz Lochhead) make their texts for audiences in the familiar sense of the noun #45; that is, they have made them to perform on stage. Group. In one case, this seems obvious from the use of conventions for a theatre script. In the other it is not at all obvious; the monologue could be seen as a first#45;person narrative, to be read in print. Louis Stokes had a smaller audience yet #45; his parents and family. Once more, we are in the position of the thesis eavesdropper. These letters were written for people who maybe shared some of Louis' perceptions in ways on which he could rely, but which are lost on us. What is the context in which the audience meets the text?

Some years ago London Transport published poems, on for comparison small posters, on tqm underground trains #45; perhaps challenging our expectations of chapdelaine, what we will see on tqm a train (adverts and maps) and where and how we read poems (in a book at resume builder school or for homework, against our will). If you are a student, you will meet these texts in the Anthology , as data for an exam course. But you should think about the thesis tqm context in which the original audience met them. Both Dickens' and Kingsley's novels first appeared in serial form in inexpensive magazines. Some people would read them (probably aloud) while others, unable to read, would listen #45; something Dickens records in Great Expectations (where Mr. Wopsle reads the resume newspaper aloud in the Three Jolly Bargemen) and Our Mutual Friend (where Mr. Sloppy reads to thesis, Betty Higden, who observes that #8220;he do the police in different voices#8221;). Our Day Out began life in the theatre, moved on deadliest ghost prison to TV, but recently has found an tqm audience in for comparison essay, schools, where people study it for thesis GCSE. Louis Stokes wrote letters that might be read over breakfast in his parents' home. Marius Rose may have supposed that people would read his books rather as they read the Highway Code (to pass a test, of sorts), but maybe thought they would read it for light amusement. Resume Builder. Alice Taylor maybe supposes that other adults may want to read about a school system like the thesis one they remember, or may want to find out how things have changed.

Her account is in a tradition of america andersonville ghost prison secret shadow social, reminiscences with such books as Cider with Rosie and thesis Lark Rise to chapdelaine, Candleford #45; a sort of social history. When and where and why do people read these books? For entertainment or information or something else? And what about Bacon's essays? The modern reader may find it hard to understand the context in thesis tqm, which the contemporary reader would meet them. Bacon wrote polemically, arguing a case that his educated readers would accept or attempt to confute #45; that is, the reader would expect not merely to read and notice what Bacon has said. Rather he (or, rarely, she) would treat the argument seriously as a guide to chapdelaine, practice, and apply it, or some contrary scheme, (or advise a patron to do so) in creating or extending opportunities for boys and young men to study.

Reading these essays might help a wealthy man decide to endow a school or college, rather than spend more on his own pleasures. Subject and theme #45; writers' attitudes to education. The texts in the Anthology are connected by a very broad theme #45; that of education. In fact, most, but not all, have something to do with school education. Thesis Tqm. But this is chapdelaine resume, not saying much. Some of the writers set out to describe, others to explain, attack or ridicule.

Some of the writers have inside knowledge #45; they have been educators in or out of sympathy with the systems in which they practise. Others are outsiders #45; who may be passionate, amused or detached. Some are experts on something (not necessarily education); others are ignorant #45; understandably, if they are children, less so if they are adults. Some of these texts attempt to thesis tqm, depict the reality of education #45; but may at resume once distort or embellish or emphasise selectively, so the reader does not receive an tqm even or clear view. Essayer Anglais. Others depict a stereotype, an archaic or a comic fantasy. Thesis. Most of the writers here have a sense of purpose and beau essayer can control the medium #45; yet they may reveal unintentionally their deeper or unconscious assumptions. Some of the writers or speakers are not producing texts for thesis public reading or listening, and have not attempted so much shaping or control. And many of the america andersonville deadliest essay secret social writers have been caught out by changing values or (more obviously but perhaps superficially) by changes in the lexicon or in socially acceptable uses of English. The writers here have various purposes #45; some are setting out to instruct the reader directly.

Others are making some kind of comment or judgement on education #45; and these, in turn vary widely from those who espouse or condemn particular theories or philosophies to tqm, those who think only of the immediate circumstances in which education happens, or doesn't. Some of the writers are consciously or unconsciously endorsing a series of ideas that broadly represent a classical#45;liberal tradition. Some mock this gently (Frank Richards, Willans and essay ghost history prison secret Searle) while others both mock and thesis revere it (The Beano ). Tony Harrison attempts a serious critique that neither endorses nor condemns. Rather, it rehabilitates, secures the foundations of, and removes a veneer of social respectability from, the study of the classics. Harrison shows off his learning, while others may be more cautious, and some (Roger McGough) give no grounds for the reader to believe that they have any learning.

More alarmingly, McGough's supposed black humour conceals an uncritical acceptance of educational fascism. A jokey #8220;ironic#8221; account of violence hides what it is that the resume builder violence is meant to put right. Thesis Tqm. The history of education is a history of building up and breaking down #45; we move from confused and resume builder app uncertain times, into ages where the educators think they know what they are doing, until someone challenges this, breaks it down and thesis then we build up again. Kingsley in The Water Babies and Dickens in Hard Times savage the inflexible and inhumane systems of public education that resulted from the originally benevolent intentions of the Utilitarians. Beau Essayer. Later the Victorian public school system valued the civilizing influence of the classics, literature and history, but mixed up what we may call academic study with games, exercise, social deference, religious instruction and thesis tqm a powerful code of behaviour (sometimes known as #8220;Muscular Christianity#8221;). The modern English and Welsh National Curriculum goes much further in essay, imposing a thorough and tqm detailed model of learning on all children and anglais young people in state schools #45; yet there is great public disquiet about its effects on other things that should happen in the lives of the young. The texts in the Anthology show (as almost any collection would do) that views are as various as writers with opinions are numerous. Tqm. Just as there is a canon in literature #45; a notional collection of important classical works, the relative values of which we may debate #45; so there is a kind of canonical idea of what education involves, perhaps best expressed in on an, Thomas Hughes's Tom Brown's Schooldays - where the young hero faces some adversity but generally thrives in tqm, Dr. Arnold's exemplary public school.

This was not a typical or representative experience #45; it was only open at avoir essayer first to a privileged social elite. Thesis. But its influence on popular ideas of builder, #8220;good#8221; education is tqm, immense. We find Dickens condemning different kinds of private education in Nicholas Nickleby and ghost history shadow Dombey and Son , and the mechanical system of thesis, Mr. Phd Dissertation Support. Gradgrind's day school in Hard Times . There is a more sympathetic and detailed portrait of a Victorian school in Our Mutual Friend , though this is eventually dropped, as the narrative focuses more on thesis the schoolmaster, Bradley Headstone, as he sinks into chapdelaine despair and tqm vengefulness. After Tom Brown, stories that praise or commend boarding school and public school abound #45; Frank Richards' Billy Bunter Books are typical. Including A Word On An. Later, in thesis, grammar schools, the state provided more or less this same classical education for perhaps a quarter of the population of the UK, selecting by performance in a series of rigorous standardized tests. The change to a word count on an essay, a more demotic depiction of school in modern fiction may have been influenced by Barry Hines' grim A Kestrel for tqm a Knave and Stan Barstow's life#45;affirming Joby but perhaps owes most to BBC TV's Grange Hill . Willy Russell's Our Day Out is including on an essay, a late and sentimental addition to tqm, this alternative to the classic tradition. Chapdelaine Resume. Before Tom Brown, however, writers like Blake, Wordsworth and Coleridge all stressed the thesis tqm importance of childhood. And their belief that children should learn freely, from immediate experiences and their own spontaneous responses survives powerfully into the 20th century #45; in schools like Summerhill.

If we look at the texts in the Anthology we can see how the writers position themselves in regard to notions of curriculum, pedagogy and social control. Heaney, in The Play Way , does not have sentimental illusions about the builder app genius of young writers responding to classical music; but he can see the tqm point of allowing children to learn for themselves, without being forced to use what today we call #8220;writing frames#8221;. (We justify them, as teachers, because they get results #45; but without necessarily seeing what we lose by for comparison, removing the possibility of certain kinds of failure.) In Comprehensive , Carol Ann Duffy writes as if the classical notion of education never happened (even though it was the grammar school system in thesis tqm, which she grew up). U.A. For Comparison. Fanthorpe's Felicity and Mr Frost shares Blake's or Coleridge's view of the innocent wisdom of infants. It is important to thesis, see texts in their historical context #45; that is, to be aware that speakers and essay writers may share the prevailing assumptions of their own time, which later audiences may find surprising. Equally, they may make topical references that are obscure or opaque to later generations. Kingsley, in tqm, The Water Babies , refers to the sound of #8220;Aldershot on a field day#8221;. Chapdelaine Resume. Readers in the 1860s might know that Aldershot was (and is still today) the site of an army barracks and training ground, and that #8220;a field day#8221; would see a public display of firepower #45; so the reference tells us that the noise is tqm, loud and suggests danger . Frank Richards, writing in the 1940s and later, supposes that his readers will be familiar with the method of studying Latin authors as used in English public schools, #8220;construing#8221; (glossing or paraphrasing) the Latin text aloud into English (having studied its meaning previously). This does not mean, of course, that any unusual attitude we find in an old author means that everyone in his or her time thought that way #45; we may need to look at a range of texts to see how typical such attitudes were.

One idea that has a long history is the notion that childhood is a precious time, and that education is in some way an evil, that brings childhood to resume, an end. For some it is thesis tqm, a necessary evil and has redeeming merits. The earliest expression of chapdelaine, such an idea, among the Anthology texts, is in Thomas Gray's Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College . Over a hundred years later (1854) comes Dickens' attack on a cruel system of public education in thesis, Hard Times . (Mr. Gradgrind subsidises the school, but the parents pay a nominal sum for their children to attend). A little later (1863) Kingsley attacks child labour but also the insanity of repeated exams, in resume, ways that may seem familiar to British readers at thesis the start of the 21st century. Willy Russell's Our Day Out is in this same tradition #45; arguing bleakly that education can do little to change the ghost life chances of the thesis Liverpudlian working classes.

The Bash Street Kids is more complacent, perhaps #45; the children fit happily into lives where little is expected of them, and avoir anglais the intelligent Cuthbert is a social misfit. But then, in 1953 there was more or less full employment in thesis, Britain #45; the real children of Bash Street would not need to learn much; at 14 they would leave school and begin apprenticeships or start work on the factory floor somewhere #45; Leo Baxendale (the original author) accepts that academic attainment is for a minority. There is a kind of running gag in the teacher's unending struggle to andersonville deadliest essay ghost history secret social, motivate his pupils. A rather different idea is that of British private education as an unregulated fraud #45; Willans and Searle suggest this gently in Down with Skool , while Evelyn Waugh is more explicit #45; incompetents staff the thesis tqm minor public school in Decline and Fall , and the pupils learn nothing except by their own wits. This is avoir, a satirical view, favoured by many authors (we find its origins in Dickens and Charlotte Bronte, in the portraits of Dotheboys Hall and Lowood). Against this we can set the thesis favourable depiction in avoir essayer, the official prospectuses #45; such as those from the Christian Brothers College in Bristol and St. Bede's College in Manchester.

The modern texts here largely depict state-funded and thesis public education. We see the views or opinions of writers #45; which may be more or less informed, but are not objective evidence. We do find such objective evidence in andersonville essay ghost history prison secret social, the various transcripts that show children at work #45; and we can see how far these support or contradict the thesis tqm writers' opinions. Some kinds of author, especially those in the literary tradition of anglais, what we might call high culture, are aware of each other, and especially of those in tqm, the past, in a fairly explicit way. How? These writers. refer to andersonville deadliest ghost prison shadow social, the ideas of others (endorsing, qualifying, challenging, as the case may be); quote the words of others more or less exactly. In doing this, the later writer is not plagiarizing but honouring those who went before, as well, perhaps as making a claim to be part of what one critic has called #8220;The Great Tradition#8221;. As you study the thesis tqm texts in the Anthology , you may need to know that many of chapdelaine, them look beyond the author's own horizons. Quite how you are expected to find this out is another question #45; it relies on our having guides around us to thesis tqm, alert us to the possibility, and on our own memory, so that we meet something in one context, and recall seeing it, or something like it, elsewhere. Avoir. In this guide I have pointed out all those allusions and thesis cultural references with which I am familiar, wherever I have noticed them. For example, in 1985 Carol Ann Duffy could suppose that most readers would know at least that I Spit on Your Grave was a so#45;called video nasty.

Had she been thinking of for comparison, readers of her poetry many years later, she might (but who knows?) have avoided a topical reference the point of which might soon be forgotten). But if we do not know about I Spit on Your Grave , we might miss something of what Ms. Duffy wants to tell us about Wayne. Whether the poet wants us to see the film to understand Wayne better, is something I leave to those (not me) who have seen it. After the first section of twelve poems, the texts represent a huge range of types #45; with varying structures and using differing forms (novel, poem, prospectus, transcript and thesis so on). The one thing you do not (almost by definition) have is a single very long text. So we see extracts from long books, which show the structure of a chapter, say, but not the whole plotting of Hard Times . You are not required to phd dissertation, comment explicitly on either of these #45; but both (form especially) will help you to find a way to write about the author's attitudes and values. Literary voices and thesis tqm natural speech. Resume. Many of the tqm literary texts here contain representations of, or approximations to, natural or spontaneous speech.

You may think that these approximations (like the dialogue in soap operas) are authentic. They aren't. You can verify this by looking at phd dissertation group the transcripts that record the unstructured speech of children of various ages in differing situations. The examiners want you to explain how the writers achieve particular effects. As you comment on what their attitudes and values are, you will move to the techniques they use to convey these things #45; moving from what the text is about to how the writer does it. In the individual guide to tqm, each text, you will find specific comment on the techniques (or lack of them) on builder view. But it may help you to know some commonly used techniques, so that you can spot them, and thesis explain how they work in the situation where they occur, for any text. Among these are: Simile and deadliest essay ghost history secret metaphor Lists of three Repetition Parallelism Synonymous parallelism Antithetic parallelism (antithesis) Asking questions Alliteration Wordplay. Thesis Tqm. What's the difference?

Lexis is an objective or descriptive noun #45; it confers no judgement, and implies no value system; it is neutral as regards aesthetics. Diction , on phd dissertation support the other hand, refers to a special lexicon favoured by poets at a particular historical period, and by some readers and thesis writers ever since. Its defining characteristics are that it is including on an essay, literary and intentionally different from the common or demotic register of everyday popular speech; practically, since spoken English uses many words of Old English (Anglo#45;Saxon) provenance, poetic diction favours the Latinate word or phrase. It also favours indirect, oblique or euphemistic expressions #45; as #8220;feathered friends#8221; for #8220;birds#8221; and #8220;finny tribe#8221; for #8220;fish#8221;. The writers of some of thesis tqm, these texts deliberately use such diction, while others favour more demotic language, especially when representing speech. But most have some special lexis #45; they make choices of vocabulary that reflect their ideas about school or education.

Sometimes this is very easy to spot and explicit #45; as when the fictitious Nigel Molesworth (Text 19) and the real Louis Stokes (Text 27) use the private lexicon of their own school, or the slightly wider lexicon of inter#45;public school slang. It is really the same kind of local or institutional lexical variation when it appears in beau anglais, official school documents, like the two prospectuses (Texts 26 and 31). But both of these documents contain another source of special lexis #45; they present schools with a religious affiliation: so we may wonder how far they show a general lexicon of schools and colleges, how far a lexicon of religious devotion and how far these may be mixed to produce something peculiar to religious or denominational education #45; that is, can we find anything that would not be in a secular school prospectus or a document written for Catholics outside of an educational context? Sometimes, the writers' choices come from one or other, but in a given phrase or sentence they are combined so that the education and the Catholicism seem inseparable and thesis equally important: #8220;. modern education with respect for clear moral values, taught in a confident, Christian framework.#8221; You might like to say of america ghost history prison secret, each lexical word in this extract (that is, omitting the grammatical words: #8220;with#8221;, #8220;for#8221;, #8220;in#8221; and #8220;a#8221;) whether it is religious, educational, both of these, or neutral as regards religion and tqm education. An individual writer or speaker may be influenced by social, geographical and chapdelaine institutional lexical variations, but will have his or her own distinctive language system #45; or idiolect . In exploring any text, you will focus on lexis #45; which may be more or less important. In the letters of Louis Stokes, for thesis tqm example, you will see words in the common register used with non#45;standard meanings #45; #8220;fearful#8221;, #8220;decent#8221; and #8220;sporty#8221;, for instance.

These are part of essay ghost, Louis' idiolect as much as the more familiar public school lexis, like #8220;fagging#8221;, #8220;man#8221; (for #8220;boy#8221;) and #8220;ripping#8221;. Language change is closely related to changes in the attitudes and thesis institutions, customs and mores of a society (though it is hard to beau essayer, distinguish cause from tqm effect here). But it is a clearly different thing and you should not confuse the two. So we might find an essentially similar attitude expressed in very different words or usages at two different times. We need to be alert to this or we may misconstrue an older text by quotes for comparison, importing into it the contemporary meaning of thesis, words. At a simple level, language change means that lexical choices are often an group indication of date. Thesis Tqm. Seamus Heaney, in The Play Way quotes a child who says #8220;Can we jive?#8221; #8220;Jive#8221; is such an ephemeral word (like #8220;groovy#8221; or #8220;Cowabunga#8221;) that it places the including count text within a quite exact period #45; unlikely before 1960 or after 1970. Tqm. (In some varieties of urban US English #8220;jive#8221; is avoir anglais, current, in a related but slightly different sense, as in the Bee-Gees' 1975 song Jive Talkin' and even as a descriptive title for a language variety.) But equally, in the St. Bede's prospectus, #8220;framework#8221; dates the thesis tqm text after 1970, while the metaphor in #8220;key reasons#8221; probably narrows the date down to something after 1985. (In this case, the attitudes in the text are probably even more telling in dating the text to a time after 1990 #45; the quotes essay essentially Thatcherite starkness of judgement by results is tqm, softened by platitudes about essay history shadow #8220;well#45;rounded#8221; young people who #8220;will grow in self#45;esteem#8221;. The United States has always been promoting democracy, internationally recognized human rights, accepting of labour unions and freedom towards the press. President Kennedy stated in 1962 that these conditions should be achieved in order for Cuba to qualify for easing or lifting the embargo.

The government of support group Cuba remains in communism, living conditions are still below international standards and thesis, remains restrictions on freedom of speech and labour unions. Since Cuba has not met these conditions, the United States should remain the embargo. (Klashcol, 2014) 2. Since Cuba has not able to meet the conditions specified by the US law, ending the embargo would make the United States and its government look weak. Essay Ghost Prison Secret Shadow Social? It would look towards other countries that the United States does not have a spine and this is thesis tqm not the message that should be send out to chapdelaine, the rest of the tqm world. Chapdelaine? (Guggenheim, 2015) 3. Every time the tqm United States is trying to beau, ease some of the restrictions, the thesis tqm Cuban government is taking advantage of this. This is beau anglais raising concerns about what would happen if the restrictions were completely lifted. An example of this would be that President Obama tried to improve relations by allow unlimited travel to Cuba to thesis, visit family members in 2009. The Cuban government responded to this by arresting an American aid worker and send him to andersonville deadliest essay ghost history prison social, prison for 15 years. (Guggenheim, 2015) 4. Another pro for thesis the United States of maintaining the america andersonville essay history secret social embargo would be that they are able to put pressure on the Cuban government to improve human rights if they do keep the thesis embargo. If Cuba wants to be part of world trade and other elements the chapdelaine government of the United States is able to tqm, use the resume embargo as an negotiation tool. (Klashcol, 2014)

5. Since there is no private sector in Cuba, lifting the thesis embargo would only help the government to get more rich instead of helping the Cuban citizens. Phd Dissertation Group? Since there is an over tqm 90% state-owned economy in Cuba, open trade would improve the andersonville deadliest essay ghost history shadow social government however the citizens would remain the same. (Guggenheim, 2015) 6. Since the embargo still allows for Cuban-Americans to visit family members and send money to family in Cuba, the government of the United States is able to target the government instead of the Cuban citizens. Also humanitarian and educational travel permits are issued to help improve the life of thesis tqm Cuban citizens. (Klashcol, 2014) 7. The United States should hold on to the embargo for a little longer. Fidel Castro gave power to his brother Ra??l Castro because of health issues. However, Ra??l Castro is over 80 years old as well and it might be a smart thing to do to wait for phd dissertation support a new leader to arrive to prevent issues and negotiations to happen two times. (Klashcol, 2014) 8. The majority of the Cuban-American inhabitants support the remaining of the embargo.

Since these people understand the situation the tqm best there must be listened to the opinions of these people. The majority of the andersonville deadliest essay ghost history secret social Cuban-Americans support the embargo since it has served as a constant form of thesis tqm solidarity within the Cubans for more than 50 years. Cuba should remain on this list since it has been repeatedly supporting acts of terrorism. An example of this would be the shot down of two American aircrafts which killed four people in 1996. Furthermore Cuba is suspected of supporting armed insurgencies in tqm Africa and Latin America. (Guggenheim, 2015) 10.

The United States has been showing several times the willingness to negotiate steps to improve the diplomatic relations however Fidel Castro has been calling this ‘stupid’ several times and he stated once that ‘many things will change in Cuba but not thanks to the United States. Perhaps that empire will fall first.’ (Guggenheim, 2015) 11. Open travel is insufficient to promote change in Cuba. There are many other countries already that allow open travel to Cuba but without any result. Canada is currently the main market of Cuba and this democratic country has not been able to promote any form of democracy. Most Cuban citizens are still not allowed to visit touristic areas, resorts and beaches (Klashcol, 2014) 3.5.2 Cons for the United States Maintaining the Embargo. 1. The embargo should be ended since it has failed to achieve its goal. The embargo is more than 50 years old and it has not helped to create democracy in phd dissertation support group Cuba.

The over 50 years sanctions have not been able to change the regime or the communism and proceeding with this is not going to thesis tqm, change anything in the future either. 2. The embargo is including count on an a relic of the Cold War. The relationship between Cuba and tqm, the Soviet Union raised concern by support group, the United States of their national security, however this should be seen as history now. Cuba is not a military threat to the United States and the embargo cannot be used anymore as fear of tqm communism spreading towards other countries. 3. The embargo limits export and the United States misses out on $1.2 billion every year because of missed exports.

Especially American famers miss out on money because they are not allowed to send any sugar anymore to beau essayer anglais, Cuba. Furthermore this improved access to education and health care. 10. Since the thesis tqm government of Cuba is blaming all the issues in Cuba on the United States, their view on their own weaknesses is completely gone. 1. Since Ra??l Castro is builder not planning on channing the thesis tqm communism approach into a democratic approach most of the builder app economic advantages of lifting the embargo will go straight to the government instead of the citizens and people might economically not even notice the change. (BUDL Novice Evidence Packet, 2014) 2. For many years already, according to people with knowledge in this field, the tqm United States is planning on drilling oil in Cuba. Since the embargo is the only thing that is holding them back, lifting the count on an essay embargo might become an issue. The Cuban technology is tqm not improved enough and there is app a lack of information and knowledge to start these procedures themselves. The sample margin of error is 3.1% at a 95% confidence level. Surveys were conducted in January from the 7th until the 22nd 2014. (Maslin #038; Bolger, 2014) The complete results of the survey can be found in Appendix X. 4.1.2 The General Results. The American inhabitants were asked about their perception on support group, the changing policy and tqm, if they are in favour of changing the situation.56% of the participants stated that they are in favour of changing the policy, a minority of 35% oppose the a word count on an essay change and 9% doesn’t know. The majority of the US inhabitants agree with the government and are in favour of changing the policy. Furthermore a majority of 85% believes that the US government has no diplomatic relation, trade or travel with Cuba and has a worse relationship with the government than for example with Mexico, Vietnam and tqm, Iran. Only a small percentage of 10% believes the Cuban government and the US government do have a relationship and quotes for comparison, the other 5% does not know. This means that the majority of the thesis Americans believe indeed that there are no relations at all between both nations and most of them are in favour of changing this. Moreover the survey included a question if the US government should ‘normalize’ or ‘engage’ with the builder app Cuban government. Normalizing the situation could be described as changing the policy so that both governments can work together in necessary occasions and decent rules and regulations would be applied although there would still be a certain distance between both countries and engaging would mean completely change the current ‘no relation policy’ to thesis, an engaging policy in which all restrictions are released and history will be forgotten.

60% of the participants filled in that they favour normalizing the relations with Cuba and 33% opposed. To the question what Americans think about engaging with Cuba 52% is in favour of engaging with Cuba and 27% opposed. The left over america andersonville deadliest essay history prison secret percentages are the people that have no opinion or they simply don’t know. Although the difference between the percentages of normalizing and engaging is small, we can conclude that the majority favours normalizing in this moment in time. In the beginning of the survey the participants were asked if they favour or oppose changing the Cuban policy. This question has been reformed into a new question to see if the participants still feel the same in this matter. The question ‘Do you support changing US policy so that the US can coordinate with Cuba on issues important to both nations’? was asked and 77% said they would support this compared to a 20% that still opposed. Since the question is based more directly on a certain subject, the ‘don’t know’ percentage is much more low than before. The question is directed again to another important subject due to changing the diplomatic relations which is includes allowing US companies to do more business in Cuba.

62% supports this matter and 36% opposed. Furthermore the majority of thesis tqm 52% of the participants also believes that the US should allow Cuba to have access to high speed internet and other telecommunication systems based in the US. The researchers stated to the survey participants that the Cuba trade embargo is estimated to resume builder, cost the US economy $4.8 billion in tqm exports and related economic output per year and to that question 60% answered that it is important to strengthen the relations whether this means normalizing or engaging, against a 40% that is in favour of keeping the support embargo. Furthermore 53% does not believe that Cuba should be on the list of terrorism next to Iran, Syria and Sudan. However 40% believes Cuba should be on tqm, the list of terrorism.

7% doesn’t know. Although there gap between the builder opinions are not major, most of the participants are in favour of changing the relationship with Cuba and moving forward compared to thesis, keeping the relations as the for comparison way they are. The majority of the survey participants from America believes it is thesis tqm time to make a change whether this means normalizing or engaging. Appendix X. 4.1.3 The Tourism Related Results. Among the Americans several questions were asked as well about their opinions about the current travel restrictions with the Cuba and what this should be in the future. The question if all restrictions on travelling as an American to chapdelaine, Cuba was asked and 60% supported that suggestion against a percentage of 36% that believes this should be possible in the near future.

4% did not have an opinion or doesn’t know what to answer. The majority believes that travel restrictions should be changed and in the future traveling to Cuba as an American inhabitant should be possible. Moreover, 61% support the suggestion of tqm removing restriction on US inhabitants to spend dollars in Cuba. 35% believes this should not be possible which is only 1% different compared to the previous question which have quite a strong connection. Andersonville Essay Ghost? In this case also 4% does not know what to answer. 4.2 Cuban-American inhabitants.

4.2.1 The research. A survey among the Cuban-American community has been conducted by the School of thesis tqm International and Public Affairs to review the opinions upon including a word the current US embargo for Cuba. This research has been done for more than 20 years, however the survey in 2014 has been an important one because of the changes in the policy. The School of International and Public Affairs researched upon the interests and perceptions associated with the policy such as travel restrictions, investment opportunities, trade, immigration policy and thesis tqm, diplomatic engagement among Cuban-Americans. The FIU Cuba Poll was conducted from February until May 2014. Quotes? A random sample of 1000 Cuban-American inhabitants of Miami-Dade country aged 18+.

Interviews were conducted via telephone and thesis tqm, were held in both Spanish and English depending on the preference of the interviewee. The margin of error is 3.1% at the 95% confidence level. (Grenier, 2014) 4.2.2 The General results. The survey started off with the question if the Cubans living in the US believe that the embargo has worked in any way and the majority of 71% replied with a no, is hasn’t worked at all or not very well. America Andersonville Deadliest Essay Prison Shadow Social? The other 29% believes the tqm embargo has worked well or very well in the past. Most of the participants stated a that according to them, the embargo did not worked as how it should have worked or what the participants believe the embargo should have done, caused or prevented. However, after this question the following question was asked: ‘Do you favour or oppose the continuing US embargo of Cuba’?. To this question a surprisingly small majority opposes the continuing of the embargo and 48 percent believes the US embargo of Cuba should continue. During this research, the researchers also asked beforehand the educational level of the participants. Most of the people that answered this question with ‘favour’ have had, on an average base, less education or no education at count on an, all compared to the other 52% that voted ‘oppose’. However this surprising outcome, statistics from over the last 25 years show that in 1991 still 87% of the participants were in favour of the thesis continuing of the Embargo which is now only 45% in 2014.

After this quite general and broad question the researchers implemented some questions that focus on avoir beau essayer anglais, specific elements of the embargo. The participants were asked if they believe that it should be allowed that US companies sell medicine to Cuba. 73% is in favour of lifting the embargo so that US companies will be able to sell medicine to Cuba. A minority of 18% believes this should not be possible. To the question if US companies should be allowed to tqm, sell food to phd dissertation group, Cuba, 77 percent said they are in favour if this actually would happen against a minority of 23% that would oppose. Tqm? Furthermore these question combined created a new question. Some of the chapdelaine US companies managed to establish some limited business relations with Cuba as it comes to selling medicine, grain and other agricultural products. Should this kind of thesis tqm trade be expanded, kept the same or stopped? The majority of 48% believes that this kind of trade should be expanded in the future. Essay Ghost Social? 28 percent believes this should be kept the same against 24 percent that says this should be stopped in the near future.

The participants were asked if they favour or oppose the thesis tqm US re-establishing of diplomatic relations with Cuba and a majority of 68 percent said yes. The other 32% opposed the idea of re-establishment with Cuba. This is a quite surprising answer compared to the answer in the beginning of the questionnaire which was about the continuing of the embargo and a small majority of 52% claimed that they oppose continuing with the embargo. Lifting the embargo or re-establishment of diplomatic relations comes quite close to each other however the respondents answer different and chapdelaine, are more unanimous about thesis tqm re-establishing the phd dissertation support diplomatic relations than they are unanimous about continuing the embargo. In 1966, the Cuban Adjustment Act stated that Cuban citizens may get a green card and become residents of the US one year after arriving in the country.

However, this automatic application process is not applicable for other immigration groups. This can be seen as unfair and tqm, the participants were asked if they favour or oppose the current policy of accepting Cubans into the US. Including A Word Count Essay? 86% answered that they favour the current rules and regulations of Cubans getting a green card after one year of arrival in the United States. Only 14 opposes this situation. Furthermore, Cubans that leave Cuba by raft or boat can be sent back to Cuba, however if they reach US soil they are allowed to stay. Thesis Tqm? Participants were asked about avoir beau essayer anglais their thoughts on tqm, this matter as well and 63% agreed with this rule. The other 37% believes that this should not be possible.

Besides that the Cuban-Americans were asked about the list of terrorism and if they believe that Cuba should be on the list that supports terrorism and 63% replied with a ‘yes, keep Cuba on quotes, the list’ against thesis, 37% that replied with ‘no, remove Cuba from the list’. This was quite a surprise according to the researchers however they found an applicable explanation for these answers. The researchers believe that the Cuban-Americans know very well what is builder app going on in their country of birth and probably also had to escape from Cuba to the US to thesis, create a better live. They know how it is to live in on an essay communism and might believe that whenever there is still communism in Cuba, America should not take Cuba of the list of thesis tqm terrorism. However, the chapdelaine resume researchers stated this as an possible option for these responses but is not proven. The participants were asked if they would vote for a candidate who supports the re-establishment of diplomatic relations with Cuba and only 27% of the participants said it would be likely to vote for someone that is tqm willing to establish the relations with Cuba against a majority of 72%. Furthermore the resume app question was asked if it would be likely to thesis, vote for a candidate who supports replacing the embargo with increased support for independent small business owners in chapdelaine resume Cuba and to this question 58% said it would be likely to vote for a candidate that supports this. Thesis Tqm? Moreover the support group participants were asked if they would vote for a candidate that supports replacing the embargo with support for thesis tqm increasing pressure on the Cuban government over human rights and 81% responded that it would be very likely they would vote for a candidate supporting that. Statement Barack Obama December 17th 2014. Statement by the President on Cuba Policy Changes. THE PRESIDENT: Good afternoon. Today, the United States of America is changing its relationship with the people of Cuba.

In the most significant changes in our policy in more than fifty years, we will end an outdated approach that, for decades, has failed to advance our interests, and instead we will begin to normalize relations between our two countries. Through these changes, we intend to create more opportunities for the American and tqm, Cuban people, and begin a new chapter among the count essay nations of the Americas. There’s a complicated history between the United States and Cuba. I was born in 1961 ‘- just over two years after Fidel Castro took power in Cuba, and just a few months after the Bay of Pigs invasion, which tried to overthrow his regime. Over the thesis next several decades, the relationship between our countries played out against the backdrop of the phd dissertation support Cold War, and America’s steadfast opposition to thesis tqm, communism. We are separated by just over 90 miles.

But year after year, an ideological and economic barrier hardened between our two countries. Meanwhile, the Cuban exile community in the United States made enormous contributions to our country ‘- in politics and business, culture and sports. Like immigrants before, Cubans helped remake America, even as they felt a painful yearning for the land and families they left behind. All of america andersonville ghost history prison social this bound America and Cuba in a unique relationship, at once family and foe. Proudly, the United States has supported democracy and human rights in Cuba through these five decades. Tqm? We have done so primarily through policies that aimed to for comparison, isolate the island, preventing the most basic travel and commerce that Americans can enjoy anyplace else.

And though this policy has been rooted in the best of intentions, no other nation joins us in imposing these sanctions, and thesis tqm, it has had little effect beyond providing the Cuban government with a rationale for restrictions on its people. Today, Cuba is still governed by the Castro’s and the Communist Party that came to power half a century ago. Neither the quotes for comparison American, nor Cuban people are well served by thesis tqm, a rigid policy that is rooted in events that took place before most of us were born. Consider that for more than 35 years, we’ve had relations with China ‘- a far larger country also governed by a Communist Party. Nearly two decades ago, we re-established relations with Vietnam, where we fought a war that claimed more Americans than any Cold War confrontation. That’s why -‘ when I came into office -‘ I promised to re-examine our Cuba policy. As a start, we lifted restrictions for Cuban Americans to andersonville ghost history secret social, travel and tqm, send remittances to america deadliest ghost prison secret social, their families in thesis tqm Cuba. These changes, once controversial, now seem obvious. Cuban Americans have been reunited with their families, and are the resume best possible ambassadors for our values. And through these exchanges, a younger generation of Cuban Americans has increasingly questioned an approach that does more to keep Cuba closed off from an interconnected world. While I have been prepared to thesis, take additional steps for avoir beau essayer anglais some time, a major obstacle stood in thesis tqm our way ‘- the wrongful imprisonment, in Cuba, of a U.S. citizen and USAID sub-contractor Alan Gross for five years.

Over many months, my administration has held discussions with the Cuban government about Alan’s case, and other aspects of chapdelaine our relationship. His Holiness Pope Francis issued a personal appeal to me, and to Cuba’s President Raul Castro, urging us to resolve Alan’s case, and to address Cuba’s interest in the release of three Cuban agents who have been jailed in the United States for over 15 years. Today, Alan returned home ‘- reunited with his family at long last. Alan was released by the Cuban government on humanitarian grounds. Separately, in exchange for the three Cuban agents, Cuba today released one of the most important intelligence agents that the United States has ever had in Cuba, and who has been imprisoned for nearly two decades. This man, whose sacrifice has been known to only a few, provided America with the information that allowed us to arrest the network of tqm Cuban agents that included the men transferred to Cuba today, as well as other spies in the United States. This man is now safely on our shores. Having recovered these two men who sacrificed for our country, I’m now taking steps to place the a word on an interests of the people of both countries at the heart of our policy.

First, I’ve instructed Secretary Kerry to immediately begin discussions with Cuba to re-establish diplomatic relations that have been severed since January of 1961. Going forward, the United States will re-establish an embassy in thesis Havana, and high-ranking officials will visit Cuba. Where we can advance shared interests, we will -‘ on issues like health, migration, counterterrorism, drug trafficking and phd dissertation support, disaster response. Indeed, we’ve seen the thesis benefits of cooperation between our countries before. It was a Cuban, Carlos Finlay, who discovered that mosquitoes carry yellow fever; his work helped Walter Reed fight it. Cuba has sent hundreds of quotes for comparison health care workers to Africa to fight Ebola, and I believe American and Cuban health care workers should work side by side to stop the spread of this deadly disease. Now, where we disagree, we will raise those differences directly -‘ as we will continue to do on issues related to democracy and human rights in Cuba. But I believe that we can do more to support the Cuban people and thesis tqm, promote our values through engagement. After all, these 50 years have shown that isolation has not worked. It’s time for a new approach. Second, I’ve instructed Secretary Kerry to review Cuba’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism.

This review will be guided by the facts and the law. Terrorism has changed in the last several decades. At a time when we are focused on threats from phd dissertation support group, al Qaeda to ISIL, a nation that meets our conditions and renounces the use of terrorism should not face this sanction. Third, we are taking steps to increase travel, commerce, and the flow of thesis information to and from a word count on an essay, Cuba. This is fundamentally about freedom and openness, and also expresses my belief in the power of people-to-people engagement.

With the changes I’m announcing today, it will be easier for Americans to travel to Cuba, and tqm, Americans will be able to avoir beau essayer, use American credit and debit cards on the island. Nobody represents America’s values better than the American people, and tqm, I believe this contact will ultimately do more to empower the Cuban people. I also believe that more resources should be able to reach the Cuban people. So we’re significantly increasing the amount of money that can be sent to Cuba, and removing limits on remittances that support humanitarian projects, the Cuban people, and the emerging Cuban private sector. I believe that American businesses should not be put at builder app, a disadvantage, and that increased commerce is thesis tqm good for Americans and for Cubans.

So we will facilitate authorized transactions between the United States and Cuba. U.S. financial institutions will be allowed to open accounts at resume, Cuban financial institutions. And it will be easier for U.S. exporters to sell goods in Cuba. I believe in the free flow of information. Unfortunately, our sanctions on Cuba have denied Cubans access to technology that has empowered individuals around the globe.

So I’ve authorized increased telecommunications connections between the United States and Cuba. Businesses will be able to sell goods that enable Cubans to communicate with the thesis tqm United States and other countries. These are the steps that I can take as President to chapdelaine, change this policy. Tqm? The embargo that’s been imposed for decades is chapdelaine resume now codified in legislation. As these changes unfold, I look forward to thesis, engaging Congress in an honest and serious debate about lifting the embargo. Yesterday, I spoke with Raul Castro to finalize Alan Gross’s release and the exchange of prisoners, and to essay ghost history prison social, describe how we will move forward. I made clear my strong belief that Cuban society is constrained by restrictions on its citizens. In addition to the return of Alan Gross and tqm, the release of our intelligence agent, we welcome Cuba’s decision to release a substantial number of prisoners whose cases were directly raised with the Cuban government by my team. Chapdelaine Resume? We welcome Cuba’s decision to thesis tqm, provide more access to the Internet for its citizens, and to continue increasing engagement with international institutions like the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross that promote universal values. But I’m under no illusion about the continued barriers to freedom that remain for ordinary Cubans. The United States believes that no Cubans should face harassment or arrest or beatings simply because they’re exercising a universal right to have their voices heard, and quotes for comparison essay, we will continue to support civil society there.

While Cuba has made reforms to gradually open up its economy, we continue to believe that Cuban workers should be free to form unions, just as their citizens should be free to thesis, participate in the political process. Moreover, given Cuba’s history, I expect it will continue to pursue foreign policies that will at times be sharply at andersonville deadliest essay ghost prison secret, odds with American interests. I do not expect the changes I am announcing today to bring about a transformation of Cuban society overnight. But I am convinced that through a policy of engagement, we can more effectively stand up for our values and help the Cuban people help themselves as they move into the 21st century. To those who oppose the steps I’m announcing today, let me say that I respect your passion and share your commitment to liberty and democracy. The question is how we uphold that commitment.

I do not believe we can keep doing the same thing for over five decades and expect a different result. Moreover, it does not serve America’s interests, or the Cuban people, to try to push Cuba toward collapse. Even if that worked -‘ and it hasn’t for 50 years ‘- we know from hard-earned experience that countries are more likely to enjoy lasting transformation if their people are not subjected to chaos. We are calling on Cuba to unleash the tqm potential of 11 million Cubans by ending unnecessary restrictions on their political, social, and beau anglais, economic activities. My fellow Americans, the city of Miami is only 200 miles or so from Havana. Thesis? Countless thousands of beau Cubans have come to thesis tqm, Miami — on phd dissertation group, planes and thesis tqm, makeshift rafts; some with little but the shirt on their back and hope in their hearts. Today, Miami is often referred to as the capital of Latin America. But it is also a profoundly American city -‘ a place that reminds us that ideals matter more than the color of our skin, or the phd dissertation circumstances of our birth; a demonstration of what the thesis Cuban people can achieve, and the openness of the United States to our family to the South. Todos somos Americanos. Change is hard ‘- in our own lives, and in the lives of nations. And change is even harder when we carry the heavy weight of history on our shoulders. But today we are making these changes because it is the right thing to do. Since my election as President of the State Council and Council of tqm Ministers I have reiterated on many occasions our willingness to hold a respectful dialogue with the United States on the basis of sovereign equality, in order to deal reciprocally with a wide variety of topics without detriment to the national Independence and self-determination of our people. This stance was conveyed to resume app, the U.S.

Government both publicly and thesis, privately by Comrade Fidel on several occasions during our long-standing struggle, stating the willingness to discuss and solve our differences without renouncing any of our principles. The heroic Cuban people, in the wake of serious dangers, aggressions, adversities and sacrifices, has proven to be faithful and will continue to be faithful to our ideals of independence and group, social justice. Strongly united throughout these 56 years of Revolution, we have kept our unswerving loyalty to those who died in defense of our principles since the beginning of our independence wars in 1868. Today, despite the difficulties, we have embarked on the task of tqm updating our economic model in order to build a prosperous and sustainable Socialism. As a result of a dialogue at resume, the highest level, which included a phone conversation I had yesterday with President Obama, we have been able to make headway in the solution of thesis some topics of mutual interest for resume both nations. As Fidel promised on June 2001, when he said: ‘They shall return!’ Gerardo, Ramon, and Antonio have arrived today to our homeland. The enormous joy of their families and thesis, of all our people, who have relentlessly fought for quotes for comparison this goal, is shared by hundreds of solidarity committees and groups, governments, parliaments, organizations, institutions, and personalities, who for the last sixteen years have made tireless efforts demanding their release. We convey our deepest gratitude and commitment to all of thesis tqm them. President Obama’s decision deserves the respect and acknowledgment of our people.

I wish to thank and acknowledge the a word on an essay support of the thesis tqm Vatican, most particularly the support of Pope Francisco in the efforts for resume app improving relations between Cuba and the United States. I also want to thank the Government of Canada for facilitating the high-level dialogue between the two countries. In turn, we have decided to release and send back to the United States a spy of Cuban origin who was working for that nation. On the other hand, and for humanitarian reasons, today we have also sent the American citizen Alan Gross back to his country. Unilaterally, as has always been our practice, and in strict compliance with the thesis tqm provisions of our legal system, the concerned prisoners have received legal benefits, including the release of those persons that the Government of the United States had conveyed their interest in. The economic, commercial, and thesis, financial blockade, which causes enormous human and economic damages to our country, must cease.

Though the blockade has been codified into law, the america andersonville ghost history social President of the United States has the executive authority to modify its implementation. We propose to the Government of the United States the adoption of mutual steps to improve the bilateral atmosphere and advance towards normalization of relations between our two countries, based on the principles of thesis International Law and the United Nations Charter. Cuba reiterates its willingness to quotes, cooperate in thesis tqm multilateral bodies, such as the United Nations. While acknowledging our profound differences, particularly on issues related to national sovereignty, democracy, human rights and foreign policy, I reaffirm our willingness to resume builder app, dialogue on thesis tqm, all these issues. I call upon avoir the Government of the United States to tqm, remove the obstacles hindering or restricting ties between peoples, families, and citizens of both countries, particularly restrictions on travelling, direct post services, and telecommunications. The progress made in our exchanges proves that it is possible to find solutions to chapdelaine, many problems.

As we have reiterated, we must learn the art of coexisting with our differences in a civilized manner. We will continue talking about these important issues at a later date. Statement Ra??l Castro Summit Panama 2015. I was told at first that I could make an eight-minute speech; although I made a great effort, along with my Foreign Minister, to reduce it to eight minutes, and thesis tqm, as I’m owed six summits from which we were excluded, 6 times 8, 48 (laughter and applause), I asked President Varela a few moments before entering this magnificent hall, to allow me a few minutes more, especially after we have been hearing so many interesting speeches, and I am not only a word count on an referring to that of President Obama, but also that of Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, President Dilma Rousseff and others. Without further ado, I will begin. His Excellency Juan Carlos Varela, President of the Republic of Panama, Firstly, I express our solidarity with President Bachelet and the people of Chile, for the natural disasters that they have been enduring. I thank all the thesis tqm countries of Latin America and including a word count on an essay, the Caribbean for thesis their solidarity, which enabled Cuba to participate on an equal footing in this hemispheric forum, as well as the President of the Republic of Panama for the invitation to attend he so kindly extended us.

I bring a fraternal embrace for the Panamanian people and those from all the nations represented here. When on a word count on an, December 2 and 3, 2011, the tqm Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) was created in Caracas, a new stage in the history of Our America began, which clearly asserted the hard earned right to live in peace and america andersonville deadliest essay history prison, develop as its peoples freely decide, and plotted a path for future development and integration based on cooperation, solidarity and the common will to preserve independence, sovereignty and identity. The ideal of thesis Sim??n Bol??var to create a ‘great American Homeland’ inspired truly epic independence struggles. In 1800, the U.S. had considered adding Cuba to the Union of the North, as the southern boundary of its vast empire. In the nineteenth century, the Doctrine of Manifest Destiny emerged with the goal of quotes for comparison essay dominating the Americas and the world, together with the thesis tqm ‘ripe fruit’ theory regarding the inevitable gravitation of Cuba toward the resume builder United States, which rejected the birth and development of a particular, emancipatory thinking of our own. Later, through wars, conquests and interventions, this expansionist and hegemonic force stripped Our America of its territories and extended itself to the Rio Bravo.

Following long and frustrated struggles, Jos?? Mart?? organized the ‘necessary war’ of 1895’the Great War, as it was also called, began in 1868’and created the Cuban Revolutionary Party to lead it and to found a Republic ‘with all and for tqm the good of all,’ which set out to including on an essay, achieve ‘the full dignity of thesis tqm man.’ Accurately defining and anticipating the characteristics of his time, Mart?? devoted himself to the duty ‘of preventing the United States from resume builder, spreading throughout the Antilles as Cuba gains its independence, and overpowering, with that additional strength our lands of America”those were his exact words. Our America for him was that of the Creoles, the indigenous, the blacks and the mulattos, the mestizo and hardworking America that had to make common cause with the oppressed and plundered. Today, beyond geography, this is an ideal that is tqm beginning to become a reality. One hundred seventeen years ago, on chapdelaine, April 11, 1898, the tqm then President of the United States requested authorization from support, Congress to militarily intervene in the independence war, which Cuba at thesis, the time had been fighting for nearly 30 years, already virtually won at the cost of america ghost history social rivers of Cuban blood, and this’the U.S. Congress’passed a deceptive joint resolution, which recognized the independence of the island ‘in fact and in thesis law.’ They came as allies and including a word essay, seized the country as occupiers.

An appendix to its Constitution was imposed on Cuba, the Platt Amendment’known by the name of the Senator who proposed it’which stripped the island of its sovereignty, authorized the powerful neighbor to intervene in tqm its internal affairs and support, led to the establishment of the Guantanamo Naval Base, which still usurps part of our territory. During this period, the invasion of thesis tqm northern capital increased, thereafter there were two military interventions and support for cruel dictatorships. When Cubans, at the beginning of the app twentieth century, drafted their Constitution and thesis tqm, presented it to the governor, a U.S. general arbitrarily appointed by his country, he responded that there was something missing, and when the quotes Cuban constitutionalists asked what that might be, he said: This amendment presented by Senator Platt, giving the United States the thesis tqm right to intervene in america andersonville deadliest history secret social Cuba whenever it deems necessary. They made use of that right. Tqm? Of course, Cubans rejected it and the response was ‘ very well, we’ll stop here.

That lasted until 1934. There were two further military interventions and the support for cruel dictatorships in the mentioned period. Regarding Latin America, ‘gunboat diplomacy’ and resume, then the ‘Good Neighbor’ policy took precedence. Successive interventions overthrew democratic governments and installed terrible dictatorships in 20 countries, 12 of thesis them simultaneously. Including A Word Count On An Essay? Who among us does not remember that quite recent period of dictatorships everywhere, mainly in South America, which killed hundreds of thousands of people? President Salvador Allende left us an thesis tqm enduring example. Exactly 13 years ago, there was a coup d’??tat against the dear President Hugo Ch??vez Fr??as which the resume app people defeated. Then came, almost immediately, the costly oil shutdown. On January 1st, 1959, 60 years after American soldiers entered Havana, the Cuban Revolution triumphed and the Rebel Army, commanded by Comandante Fidel Castro Ruz, arrived in the capital, the same day, exactly 60 years later.

Such are the unfathomable ironies of thesis tqm history. The Cuban people, at a very high price, began the andersonville essay ghost prison shadow social full exercise of their sovereignty. They were six decades of absolute domination. On April 6, 1960’just a year after the triumph’Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Lester Mallory, wrote in thesis tqm a perverse memorandum’I can not find another adjective to describe it. This memorandum was declassified decades later’I quote certain paragraphs: ‘(‘) the majority of Cubans support Castro’There is no effective political opposition. The only foreseeable means of alienating internal support is through disenchantment and phd dissertation support, disaffection based on economic dissatisfaction and hardship (‘), to weaken the economic life of Cuba (‘) denying money and supplies to Cuba, to decrease monetary and real wages, to bring about tqm hunger, desperation and overthrow of government.’ End of quote. 77% of the Cuban population was born under the rigors imposed by the blockade, more terrible than even many Cubans can imagine, but our patriotic convictions prevailed, the aggression increased resistance and accelerated the revolutionary process. That happens when you impede the natural revolutionary process of the peoples. The harassment brings more revolution, history demonstrates this and not only in the case of our continent or Cuba.

The blockade did not start when President Kennedy signed it in 1962, later I will make a brief reference to him given his positive initiative to contact the leader of our Revolution to begin what President Obama and I are now starting. Almost simultaneously with the news of his assassination, [Fidel] received a message from him. That is to say the aggression increased. The attack on Playa Gir??n came in 1961, a mercenary invasion, sponsored and organized by the United States. Six years of war against armed groups who on two occasions encompassed the whole country. We had no radar, and clandestine aviation’it is not known where it came from’was throwing down weapons in parachutes. That process cost us thousands of lives; we have not been able to calculate the economic costs with accuracy.

It was January 1965 when it concluded, and they had began supporting it towards the end of 1959, about chapdelaine 10 or 11 months after the triumph of the Revolution, when we had not yet declared socialism, which was declared in 1961, at the funeral of the victims of the tqm airport bombings the day before the invasion. The next day our army, small at that time, and all our people went to fight against that aggression and fulfilled the order of the Leader of the Revolution to destroy it within 72 hours. Because if they had managed to including a word count on an essay, establish themselves there at the landing site, which was protected by the largest swamp of the Caribbean islands, they would have brought in thesis an already formed government’with a Prime Minister and the appointment of america andersonville deadliest history other ministers’which was at a U.S. military base in Florida. If they had been able to consolidate the position they initially occupied, it would have been easy to thesis tqm, bring that government over to Playa Gir??n. And immediately the OAS, which had already banned us for proclaiming ideas alien to the continent, would had recognized it. This government formed in Cuba, establishing itself on a small piece of chapdelaine land, would have asked the OAS for help and that help was located on thesis, U.S. Chapdelaine? warships situated three miles off the coast, which was the then existing limit of our territorial waters, which as you know is now is 12 [miles]. The Revolution continued to gain strength, to radicalize. Tqm? The other option was to give up. What would have happened? What would have happened in Cuba?

How many hundreds of thousands of Cubans would have died? because we already had hundreds of thousands of light weapons; we had received the first tanks which we did not even know how to handle well. The artillery, we knew how to shoot cannon fire, but we did not know where they were going to hit; what some militia learned in the morning, they had to teach to others in the afternoon. But there was a lot of courage, you had to go along a single route, because it was a swamp where the troops could not spread out, nor could tanks or heavy vehicles be deployed. We suffered more casualties than the attackers. That’s why Fidel’s order was fulfilled: to eliminate them within 72 hours. And that same U.S. fleet was the chapdelaine one which accompanied the expedition from Central America, and it was there, from the coast where some of their ships could be seen just three miles away. What was the cost to Guatemala of the famous invasion in 1954?, which I remember well because I was imprisoned on the Isle of Youth’or Pines, as it was called then’for the thesis attack on the Moncada Barracks a year earlier. How many hundreds of thousands of Mayans, indigenous peoples and beau essayer anglais, other Guatemalan citizens perished throughout a long process that would take years to recover from? That was the beginning. Once we had already proclaimed socialism and the people had fought to defend Playa Gir??n, President John F. Kennedy’to whom I already made reference just a moment ago’was assassinated precisely at the very moment, the same day on which the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, had received a message from him’from John Kennedy’looking to initiate a dialogue. After the Alliance for Progress and thesis tqm, having paid the foreign debt several times over without preventing it from further multiplying, a savage and globalizing neoliberalism was imposed on us, as an expression of america deadliest ghost shadow imperialism in tqm this era, which caused a lost decade in the region.

The proposal then of a mature hemispheric association resulted in the attempt to impose the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) on us, associated with the emergence of phd dissertation support group these Summits, which would have destroyed the economy, sovereignty and common destiny of our nations, if it had not been run aground in 2005, in Mar del Plata, under the leadership of Presidents Ch??vez, Kirchner and Lula. A year earlier, Ch??vez and Fidel had given birth to the Bolivarian Alternative, today the thesis Bolivarian Alliance for america andersonville essay ghost shadow social the Peoples of Our America. We have expressed’and I reiterate now’to President Barack Obama, our willingness to thesis tqm, engage in respectful dialogue and a civilized coexistence between the quotes for comparison two states within our profound differences. I consider as a positive step his recent statement indicating that he will decide shortly regarding Cuba’s presence on the list of state sponsors of terrorism’imposed by thesis tqm, the Reagan administration’on which it should never have appeared. Us, a terrorist country! Yes, we have undertaken certain acts of solidarity with other peoples, who may be considered terrorists, when we were cornered, forgotten and harassed to the limit, there was only one choice: surrender or fight.

You know what we chose with the support of our people. Who could think that we would force a whole people to make the sacrifice made by the Cuban people to andersonville deadliest history secret social, survive, to help other nations?! (Applause). But ‘the dictatorship of the Castros forced them,’ just like it forced 97.5% of the population to vote for socialism. I reiterate that I consider as a positive step the thesis recent statement by President Obama to speedily decide on avoir anglais, the presence of Cuba on a list of tqm state sponsors of terrorism that it should never have been on, I was telling you, because when this was imposed it turned out that the terrorists were those of us who provided the corpses’I don’t have the exact figure to mind’for terrorism in Cuba alone, and in some cases against Cuban diplomats in other parts of the world who were killed. The figure was just provided me by my compa??eros: in that period we saw 3,478 dead and resume app, 2,099 disabled for life; plus many others who were wounded. The terrorists were those who provided the corpses. Where did the terror come from then? Who provoked it? Some of those who have even been here in Panama these past few days, such as the CIA agent Rodr??guez, who murdered Che and took his cut-off hands to prove with his fingerprints, I don’t know where, that it was the corpse of thesis Che, which later we recovered with the help of group a friendly government in Bolivia. But still, since then we continue to be the terrorists.

Truly, I ask you to excuse me, including President Obama and tqm, others present at this event, for expressing myself in this way. I told him myself that passion seeps from my very pores when it comes to the Revolution. I ask you to excuse me because President Obama has no responsibility for any of this. How many presidents have we had? Ten before him, every one of them have an outstanding debt with us, except President Obama. After saying so many harsh things about a system, it is chapdelaine fair that I ask him to excuse me, because I am among those who believe’and I have expressed this to thesis, quite a few heads of state and avoir beau essayer, government that I see here, in thesis tqm private meetings I have had with them, when receiving them in my country’that, in my opinion, President Obama is an honest man. I’ve read some of his biography in the two books which have appeared, not in support full, I’ll do that given more time. I admire his humble origins, and thesis tqm, I think his nature is due to avoir essayer, this humble background (Long applause).

I thought long and hard about saying these words, I even had them written and removed. I added them again, and again I erased them, and, in the end, I said them, and I am satisfied. To date, the economic, commercial and financial blockade continues to be applied in full force against tqm, the island, causing harm and scarcities to the people and andersonville deadliest essay ghost history shadow, is the fundamental obstacle to the development of tqm our economy. A Word Essay? It constitutes a violation of International Law and its extraterritorial reach affects the interests of all States. The almost unanimous vote, apart from Israel and the United States itself, against the blockade in the UN over so many years, is no coincidence. And while the thesis blockade exists, a situation for which the President is not responsible, and that due to past agreements and bills was codified into a law in Congress which the President cannot modify, we must continue to america andersonville prison secret social, struggle and support President Obama in tqm his intentions to eliminate the blockade. (Applause) One issue is the establishment of diplomatic relations and another is the chapdelaine resume blockade.

Therefore, I ask you all, and life also obliges us, to continue supporting this struggle against thesis, the blockade. We have publicly expressed to President Obama, who was also born under the chapdelaine blockade policy toward Cuba, our recognition of his brave decision to participate in a debate with his country’s Congress in thesis tqm order to put an essay end to it. These and other elements must be resolved in the process toward the future normalization of bilateral relations. For our part, we will continue to be engaged in the process of updating the Cuban economic model with the aim of perfecting our socialism, advancing toward development and consolidating the achievements of thesis tqm a Revolution which has proposed to ‘conquer all justice’ for our people. What we will do has been outlined in a program since 2011, approved in the Party Congress. In the next Congress, which will take place next year, we will expand it; we will review what we have done and what remains to be done in order to achieve our goal. Esteemed colleagues:I should warn you that I am only half way through, if you like I will stop, and if you’re interested I will continue. I will speed up a bit (laughter). Venezuela is not, nor can it be, a threat to the national security of a superpower like the United States. (Applause).

It is positive that the U.S. President has recognized this as such. I must reiterate our total support, resolute and loyal, to the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, to the legitimate government and the civic-military union led by President Nicol??s Maduro, to essay, the Bolivarian and chavista people who are struggling to follow their own path and facing destabilization attempts and unilateral sanctions which we demand be lifted, that the Executive Order be revoked ‘ although this is difficult given the law ‘ which would be appreciated by our community as a contribution to hemispheric dialogue and understanding. We know each other. I believe that of thesis those of us gathered here, I may be one of the few that best knows the Venezuelan process, it is app not because we are there, nor that we are exerting influence there and they tell us everything, we know the process because they are proceeding along the same path which we passed and tqm, are suffering the phd dissertation group same aggressions we suffered, or some of tqm them. We will continue to support the efforts of the Republic of Argentina to recuperate the Malvinas, Georgias del Sur and Sandwich del Sur Islands, and will continue to support its legitimate struggle to defend its financial sovereignty. We will continue to phd dissertation support group, support the actions of the thesis Republic of chapdelaine Ecuador in the face of transnational companies which cause ecological harm to its territory and attempt to impose abusive conditions. I would like to acknowledge the thesis tqm contribution of Brazil, and phd dissertation support group, of President Dilma Rousseff, to the strengthening of regional integration and to the development of social policies which have brought advances and benefits to broad sectors of the population, which, within the offensive against diverse leftist governments of the region, they are attempting to oust. Our support for the Latin American and Caribbean people of Puerto Rico in their efforts to achieve self-determination and independence’as the United Nations Decolonization Committee has ruled on thesis tqm, dozens of occasions’will be unwavering.

We will also continue contributing to the peace process in Colombia until its happy conclusion. We should all increase help to Haiti, not only through humanitarian aid, but with resources enabling it to develop, and support Caribbean countries so that they receive just and differentiated treatment in their economic relations, and reparations for the damages caused by slavery and colonialism. We live under the avoir anglais threat of enormous arsenals posed by thesis tqm, nuclear weapons which should be eliminated and that of climate change which leaves us no time. Threats to peace are increasing and conflicts are spreading. As President Fidel Castro expressed, ‘The fundamental causes lie in poverty and underdevelopment, and in the unequal distribution of wealth and resume, knowledge which prevail in the world. It can not be forgotten that current underdevelopment and thesis, poverty are the consequences of resume builder conquest, colonization, slavery and the plundering of thesis tqm much of the earth by colonial powers, the rise of chapdelaine resume imperialism and the bloody wars for a new dividing up out of the thesis tqm planet. Including Count On An? Humanity must consider what we have been and what we can not continue to be. Today,’ continued Fidel, ‘our species has acquired sufficient knowledge, ethical values, and scientific resources to advance toward a historic era of true justice and humanism. Nothing of what exists today in the economic and political order serves the interests of humanity. Thesis? It can not be sustained. It must be changed,’ concluded Fidel.

Cuba will continue to defend the ideas for which our people have assumed the greatest sacrifices and risks and fought for, alongside the poor, the sick lacking medical attention, the unemployed, boys and girls abandoned to their fate or forced to work or prostitute themselves, the hungry; the discriminated, the oppressed and avoir beau anglais, the exploited who make up the vast majority of the world’s population. Financial speculation, the privileges of Bretton Woods and the unilateral suspension of the convertibility of the dollar into gold are increasingly asphyxiating. We require a transparent and equitable financial system. It is unacceptable that less that a dozen corporations, mainly from the U.S.’4 or 5 among 6 or 8’decide what is read, seen or heard on the planet. The Internet must have an international, democratic and tqm, participative system of governance, especially in regards to the creation of quotes for comparison essay content. The militarization of cyberspace and use of tqm covert and illegal information systems to attack other States is unacceptable. We will not allow ourselves to resume, be blinded and colonized again. Thesis Tqm? In regards to the Internet, which is a marvelous invention, one of the greatest in recent years, we might say, recalling the example of the including a word on an tongue in Aesop’s fable, that the Internet can be used in the best way and is very useful, but in turn, can also be used for the worst.

Hemispheric relations, in my opinion, must change profoundly, in particular in the political, economic and cultural spheres, to focus on developing mutually beneficial ties and cooperation to serve the interests of all our nations and their stated objectives, in accordance with international law and respect for thesis tqm the exercise of self-determination and sovereign equality. The approval of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, in January 2014 during the Second CELAC Summit in Havana, constituted an significant contribution to this goal, marked by Latin American and avoir, Caribbean unity within its diversity. This is demonstrated by the fact that we are advancing toward a genuine process of Latin American and tqm, Caribbean integration through CELAC, UNASUR, CARICOM, MERCOSUR, ALBA-TCP, SICA and the Association of Caribbean States, which highlights the growing awareness of the need to unite to ensure our development. Through the phd dissertation group aforementioned Proclamation we are obliged to thesis, ensure that ‘differences between nations are peacefully settled through dialogue and negotiations or other means, fully consistent with international law.’ Today, to live in peace, cooperating with each other in order to confront the challenges and resume, resolve the problems which, at the end of the day, affect and will continue to affect us all, is imperative. As stated in the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace ‘The inalienable right of every State to choose its political, economic, social and cultural system, as an essential condition to guarantee peaceful coexistence among nations,’ must be respected. With this we commit ourselves to fulfilling our ‘obligation not to intervene, directly or indirectly, in the internal affairs of any other state and observe the principles of national sovereignty, equal rights and self-determination of peoples,’ and to respect ‘the principles and tqm, norms of essay international law (‘) and the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.’

This historic document urges ‘all member states of the International Community to fully respect this declaration in their relations with CELAC member states.’ Now, we have the opportunity for all those present to learn, as the thesis Proclamation also expresses, to ‘practice tolerance and live together in peace as good neighbors.’ Yes, there exists substantial disagreement, but also points in common, on which we can cooperate in order to make it possible to live in this world full of threats to peace, and [ensure] the avoir survival of tqm humanity. What is stopping, at a hemispheric level, cooperation to combat climate change? As other Presidents who preceded me have already inquired. Why can’t the countries of the two Americas, the North and the South, fight together against terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crime, without politically biased positions? Why not seek together the necessary resources to provide the app hemisphere with schools, hospitals’even if they aren’t luxurious, a modest little hospital, in those places where people die because there is no doctor’to stimulate employment, to advance in the eradication of poverty.

Could it not be possible to reduce inequality in the distribution of wealth, reduce infant mortality, end hunger, eradicate preventable illnesses and end illiteracy? Last year, we established hemispheric cooperation in the fight against and prevention of Ebola and the countries of the two Americas worked together, which should serve to stimulate greater efforts. Cuba, a small country, lacking in natural resources, which has developed within an extremely hostile context, has been able to thesis, achieve full citizen participation in the political and social life of the nation; free universal healthcare and education; a system of social security which guarantees that no Cuban is left homeless; significant progress toward ensuring equality of opportunity and combating discrimination in all its forms; the for comparison full exercise of children’s and women’s rights; access to sports and culture; the right to life and thesis, citizen security. Despite scarcities and difficulties, we remain true to sharing what we have. A Word Count Essay? There are currently 65,000 Cuban collaborators working in thesis tqm 89 countries, above all in the spheres of phd dissertation support medicine and education. 68,000 professionals and thesis, technicians from 157 countries have graduated from the including on an essay island, 30,000 of which in the field of health. If, with scarce resources, Cuba has been able to achieve this, what could the thesis tqm hemisphere do, with the avoir political will to combine efforts to thesis tqm, support the andersonville essay shadow countries most in need? Thanks to Fidel and thesis tqm, the heroic Cuban people, we have come to this Summit, to fulfill the mandate of Mart?? with the freedom won by our own hands, ‘proud of Our America, to serve and honor her ‘ with the determination and capacity to help ensure that she is valued for her merits, and respected for her sacrifices,’ as Mart?? stated. Appendix Research Cuba. 1. Melia Parque Central. Hotel: Melia Parque Central. Name: Dayan Rodriquez Vazquez. Function: Manager Sales #038; Marketing Department. Location: Havana, Cuba. In the near future many tourist from the US will visit Cuba for tourism purposes. What will this mean for Cuba and its inhabitants in general? A lot will change for the Cubans, for example the economy. Currently we have two currencies in Cuba, which are the CUC and the Cuban Pesos. Soon this will change into one currency which is the Cuban pesos.

The CUC which is used now is actually just for tourist. Cubans will always pay in Pesos since this is much cheaper compared to the CUC. You will see this difference as well if you go to, for history shadow example, a museum. You will be asked to pay 10 CUC while Cubans will be asked to pay 10 Pesos which is only a tenth of what tourist will pay. The change of the currency will make everything more expensive for Cubans, however with the arrival of the Americans jobs will be generated as well. Besides that, technology will be improved which is very important for Cuba. There is a lack of information since there is no availability / limited availability to internet. The tourism industry requires a decent flow of thesis information and technology which will be improved in the near future. Chapdelaine Resume? This will have a positive effect on the Cubans as well. Furthermore, food and beverages will change since we will adapt to the needs of the US tourists.

It is definitely true that in a few months or years there will be McDonalds and Burger King everywhere. At this point Cuba is working already on a better supply of the tourism industry by constructing plans for new hotels, bars and thesis tqm, restaurants and quotes, other tourism facilities and attractions however, recently the US decided to collaborate again with Cuba and tqm, time wise it is too recent to tell you what exactly will change and what exactly will be build. Resume? The change between the countries will affect all Cuban inhabitants though. Not only within the tourism industry but indirect this will affect all of us. Not only hotels and restaurants will be affected but more banks need to be build, construction companies will be affected and for example the security companies. Do you think that the tqm massive tourism flow will affect the Cuban culture? This will not change the Cuban culture. Cuba has a very strong culture and a strong connection with each other.

A lot is a word going to change for us but the Cuban mind and the Cuban culture is not going to change. However I think that it will be a possibility that Cuban will start to be a bit more open-minded in the future because of the change in technology. The flow of information will be a major change for these people since a lot of people do not know or have internet connection, people do not know what is tqm happening in the world. In Cuba we only have 6 channels which are only based on Cuba. Programmes are from Cuba, news is including a word count mainly about Cuba and the music is from Cuba. When the US tourists will arrive this needs to change. People here are quite isolated but will be more open minded and create more knowledge when Barack Obama and thesis, the Castro family will start to work together. However, this will not change our culture. Our norms and quotes for comparison, values will stay the same because we are connected. We form one nation for a long time already and we are proud of thesis tqm that.

What will change for andersonville essay ghost prison secret you, seen from your job perspective? Any positive and / or negative influences? I will start with the positive effects. To begin with the WiFi connection is a very important subject to thesis, us. Everybody in the hotel is very excited about that since this will definitely improve our services. Right now we offer internet but the prices are very high, even for tourists prices are ridiculous and internet is very slow and sometimes still inaccessible. Besides that, I will offer a lot of products that people from the US will like. An example of this would be the Cuban Cola we offer to our current tourists. Apparently the app taste is very different from Coca Cola and thesis, not very willingly among tourist.

In the near future I will be able to offer US products such as Coca Cola. Another example of serving Cola is the chapdelaine diet Cola. Many tourists ask me about this product but we do not have this in thesis tqm Cuba. A Word On An? The thing I want to say is thesis that it is just a matter of time before I will be able to offer my clients a full package including all the food and beverages they want instead of the limited products I offer at this moment. However, I need to invest quite some money to import these products. If the essayer anglais embargo will be ended, I will be able to import products however this is not for free. Anyway, I believe that in the near future it will be worth the investment since I will be able to thesis tqm, satisfy tourists which will attract more of them as well. Besides that, I need to invest money in my hotel as well to improve facilities.

I would like to offer my hotel as an luxury product and I can improve my hotel. I would like to do this before the resume builder Americans arrive so I need to handle fast. I believe the thesis money I am investing will pay back fast in the coming years because of the increasing demand. Will you start promoting your hotel in a different way? If the statements of both countries will get reality I will change my promote plan as soon as the restrictions are lifted. Avoir Essayer? At the moment I am not able to promote in tqm any way in the US, even the website does not exist. I would like to promote more via internet since this is a very important way of promotion all over the world.

I will definitely try to builder, work as soon as possible with American tour operators and other tourism companies to create effective promotion. Collaboration with American companies will work in every way to create awareness among the hotel for this market. 2. Ronaldo’s Backpackers. Hostel: Ronaldo’s Backpackers. Name: Ronaldo Carlos Baster. Function: Owner hostel. Location: Havana, Cuba. In the near future many tourist from the US will visit Cuba for tourism purposes. What will this mean for Cuba and thesis, its inhabitants in builder app general? I think that every change in Cuba will be a better change because people in Cuba need and deserve a better way of living. Thesis Tqm? For Cuba change would mean life.

In Cuba many people do not have work and if you do have a job, the government does not pay enough to have a decent amount of essayer money to eat, to buy clothes or anything that involves primary goods. Tqm? Every change will have a risk but the Cubans are willing to take a risk since we need a better way of living. Nor the US or another country could make a change in Cuba. It is the government that would be able to make a change in Cuba. The change needs to be made inside of this country and I can only hope that the US is able to wake up the government and see what they are putting us through. Of course the US broke the relations with Cuba a long time ago, but stopped since that time as well to do anything to support, create a better life for the Cubans. We have good education here, we have a great medical system but we need more. We need information, we need more jobs, the economy needs to improve. Right now it is not enough and it needs to change as soon as possible.

Do you think this will change the Cuban culture? I think that the culture of tqm Cuba will not change because in group 1960 to thesis, 1990 Cuba was a kolonie of the Soviet Union. Support? We had to dance the polska. We had to learn how to thesis, dance like Russians. When I started high school I was in the movement of culture. When we finally became independent we had nothing. We lost everything. Including A Word Count? There was no food, nothing to buy, no clothes, no house markets, completely nothing. There was nothing in tqm Cuba. Around ten years we all live in poverty but eventually Venezuela arrives. We have adopted the lifestyle of Venezuela and we have to learn about Venezuela.

Later on there was China which was another country that gave some money to america andersonville ghost history prison social, Cuba and we had to adapt to China and learn about thesis their culture. Ghost History Shadow? However, Cuba was almost more close to the culture of the US than it has been to China the Soviet Union or any other country. In our hearts, we will never be part of the Carribean area or the Latin American area since we are completely different in thesis actually everything. We feel more connected to the US. A cultural connection that has always been there but was not allowed to be there. But when all Americans will arrive here, what will change in the country? For example de komst van WiFi, construction areas, flat screen televisions. Yes these things will definitely change but the connection between people is too big to change the culture.

All changes will be improvements. The best example of this would be the internet. Cuba needs more information, we need the opportunity to express ourselves, express our ideas, our religions etc. we need information about everything and so far this is limited. It is not just about the Social Media but we need to learn about the world. We need to be educated as how other people are educated all over the world. In Cuba it is more important to know what happens in the next street than what is resume going on thesis, all over the world.

On internet you can find books, the news, actually everything you need. The government of Cuba does not want to give internet to essay, the people because they are afraid this will affect the system. What do you expect the government to do when the US arrives? Do you expect any changes in the political system? The government does not want any change in the political system.

I think that Cuba will become like China which is a sort of communism but with a capitalism economy. So if the economy will increase in Cuba but the government will not change, do you believe Cubans will agree on living in communism as long as they can earn more money? What people here really need is jobs, more money, opportunity to travel and to speak. Thesis? We are trapped and for for comparison us it is impossible to speak out thesis tqm, our thoughts which is support group very difficult and maybe for someone like you from a western country not able to understand. Cubans would be happy with more money to tqm, begin with, but eventually we work toward the moment we can all say we are a democratic country and able to speak and travel freely. Seen from the view of the hostel, what changes do you expect when travellers from essayer, America will come to tqm, Cuba? I think we will have lots of Americans but we will still receive a lot of people from Europe, Australia, Singapore etc. as well. For America it will be an builder opportunity to get to know Cuba and we will finally learn from America as well. Do you think a lot needs to be changed in thesis the hostel itself? I would like to change a lot. I would like to move to anglais, a bigger house to provide more space for my clients.

Furthermore I would like to have WiFi off course but this is not to thesis, satisfy the US. This is to improve facilities in the hostel for everybody. In every country these days everybody has internet, running water and a warm shower except for Cuba. I would like to support group, improve facilities in its overall. This needs to be done for thesis Cuban inhabitants as well just like I am. I would like to america essay history prison secret social, see facilities get better since I will have a better way of living as well. Thesis? Off course this is also a positive point for chapdelaine the travellers. Will you buy food #038; bevarages from US brands to satisfy your clients? No, this is not what I am going to change. In this hostel we provide the experience of Cuba which include its local products. Tqm? If people from the US like to eat products from the US they are not the chapdelaine right travellers to visit this hostel.

I don’t care what else will happen in the country as it comes to food #038; beverage products. If there will be US products everywhere, that is fine by me. Thesis? It is not important. How will you promote your hostel in the future? If we have the opportunity to communicate freely, including Social Media, I will definitely start promoting on Social Media. I have a Facebook page for the hostel but the access is very limited. For Comparison? If I can enter Facebook once per week I am happy but this is not enough. Thesis Tqm? I receive many messages on Facebook and sometimes I am too late with answering because of the connection and these people find another place.

I would definitely like to quotes, create post on Facebook, use Twitter and Instagram. Tqm? However, I also feel I don’t really need major promotion because the hotel is always full and the Americans are not even here yet. Can you imagine how this will be when the people from the US come here? I will not have enough space. That is another reason I want to move to a bigger house. I want to facilitate more sleeping places and I can earn more money. 3. Quotes For Comparison? Hostel Casa Caribe. Hostel: Hostel Casa Caribe. Name: Rodolfo Fuegas. Function: Owner hostel. Location: Havana, Cuba.

What is your opinion about the political change that is going on between the US and Cuba? I don’t really see a political change. The only change I am seeing is that maybe the relationship between the thesis US and Cuba will get better. Maybe it will work in a different way than it has been working for over more than 50 years. Many things will improve, many things will be better but until now we don’t know exactly what that will be since we never know what will happen in Cuba. The only problem I am seeing right now, from my point of view, the change from December 17th until now is resume that the US is doing more than what the Cuban government is willing to do. I can see that the US is opening some doors and we don’t see these doors being opened here.

Cuba is tqm not closing doors but it continues to be as hard as always with the resume builder United States. Yesterday (13-3-2014) Ra??l Castro gave a speech about Venezuela and Cuba because of the working programme between the US and tqm, Venezuela, and Castro has only been saying bad things about the resume builder app US government and this will not help for a better future. What do you think is holding back the Cuban government? I don’t think that the Cuban government does not want to work for it, but they are too proud. The message of the government is that they will remain how they are because it has always been that way. The other party needs to make the change according to the government.

You also asked me how it is going to be. Off course I think tourism will increase but there are some things you have to thesis tqm, think about when you are talking about tourism. We need to remember that we do not have the infrastructure to provide decent tourism to Americans. Resume Builder? Not particularly Americans but we cannot receive the amount of tourist that will come here in thesis a few years. So the government is not working hard enough to provide facilities for this major tourism flow? Exactly. Besides they put more barriers, even to the Cuban people that are paying rents.

The government puts so many laws to make it impossible to start a little business. All these laws make it impossible to create a proper living. For example Casa Particulares (houses for count rent) the thesis government has so many laws, for example paying a fee when you start, another fee that needs to be paid every year etc. This makes it impossible for Cubans to start something for creating a better life. The government is holding us back. I have been affected by the embargo as well. A few years ago my hostel was being sold on a website called

This website is major in demand and supply of hostels. The website was sold to a company in the US and they throw me off this website. Since that time it has been much more difficult to fill up my hostel with travellers. Now I am only being promoted via and by worth of including a word mouth. I use Facebook as well but the government makes it impossible to actually use it. It will close ten times before I am able to use it once. It is not working like that. There will be so many things that will get better once relations are strengthened.

For example the rice industry. Cuba used to consume before 1960 the rice from the US. All the rice that has been eaten in Cuba was exported from the US. In this moment, we are importing the rice from China, Vietnam, Brazil and many other places. Tqm? This is much more expensive off course.

If the relationships improve the rice will come again from the US. In fact there are already many farmers from the US that are already doing business with the Cuba. Now they have the permission to do business with some particular Cuban businesses and they are at this moment exporting rice to Cuba. Actually last week there was the first direct flight from New York to Havana. The first direct flight from the US to Cuba ever. We could never even dream about that but it became reality.

There are some things that are actually improving. We just don’t know what will happen next. That is the problem with Cuba. Today we see some improvement but maybe tomorrow the government decides to including a word count on an essay, stop the relationship again. Let’s hope that Cuba will keep on participating. However, the US government needs to tqm, hand in some things too. The US needs to give up the Montanayo Bay. What is the United States government doing with that bay?

It is one of most damaged and embarrassing place for the US in a word count on an essay the world. It is a shame for the US government. Give it up because you don’t need that piece of land but let’s hope that the tqm government will continue strengthening their relations because the Cuban people love the Americans and Americans love the Cuban people. The problem is resume between the governments. Do you think that R??ul Castro is thesis afraid for the negotiations with Obama because it might danger its communism? Obama is not going to change Cuba at all. Cubans cannot change Cuba. Only the current government.

We used to say that the embargo is in Cuba. And only in Cuba. The US government is not a problem. The Cuban government created its own embargo. Do you believe America will change the Cuban culture? No not at all. The Cuban culture is too strong to be changed.

It can be influenced by a word essay, other things such as MacDonalds but we already have fast food here. We have so much traditional food and other things. Besides that we already have music from America, we already have American food, movies and dances. It is not that they are going to bring that to us. We have seen that and taste that forever.

I don’t think America will have any influence on that. Most series you see on thesis, television are American series, which is the essayer anglais same with music and movies. We love Madonna, Tina Turner and tqm, Michael Jackson. We have so many people that like to imitate Michael Jackson in including essay Cuba. How many places can you find in Havana with the name Charles Chaplin? What influence do you think the USA will bring that we don’t have yet?

We have it all but we have our own traditions as well. Traditions and thesis, connections are too strong to fade. Imagine Miami. Miami is not American it is part of Cuba and all the immigrant that live there. Spanish is spoken in Miami. Quotes Essay? Not English.

Only a few people speak English because they have to. Seen from the hostel perspective, what are the advantages and disadvantages for thesis tqm you if the tourist from the USA stay in essay your hostel? I will not have any disadvantages of this, only advantages. The first advantage would be that I would be included again in I was included in thesis tqm this website when I started this hostel 3 years ago, when Hostel Bookers was still an English company but they merged with and they took me out of the system because of the American embargo. I have been damaged directly by the American embargo. I am sure that the new negotiations and the relationships will change the rules and I will be in the system of hostel bookers again. Of course this is very good for resume me and my company. We will receive many guests, we will be in the world system of bookings again.

At this moment I am only depending on the guest that are able to tqm, find the hostel via and by worth of mouth. I have nothing to promote myself. I don’t think there will be any disadvantages because I had some American travellers before, however not in phd dissertation support group the hostel but I have been guiding American students. They are nice people, nice travellers. Will you change your product? I am already looking for a new place for a while now. I want to move to thesis, something much bigger because this place is getting too small.

I need more space to create more comfort, I want a water system that provides warm water as well. I would like to offer more rooms so I can earn more as well of course. Furthermore I want to have a roof terrace and a bigger dining room so we can all eat together. A Word On An? That is what I am looking for thesis tqm right now but it has not been easy. Do you want to make this change because of the change between the USA and Cuba? No, this has been my plan already for chapdelaine resume a long time. However, the situation with the USA has been pushing me to do it.

First this were just some ideas but I believe that soon it will become reality to move to a bigger place. I am already having more reservations than this hostel can handle. I am already moving tourists to the neighbours and other rooms upstairs so I can provide a place to sleep for everyone. It will only get better when I can move to a bigger place. Will you change the prices? No, my prices will stay the same. In the near future the 2 currencies that you have right now in cuba, (pesos and the CUC) will change into one currency, the CUC. How are Cubans going to handle this since everything will get more expensive? This is going to change indeed but nobody knows when or what the influence will be. Everything will definitely get more expensive and we don’t know how the government is going to solve this.

That is the problem with Cuba. We never know what is going on and rules might change the next day. Nobody knows how it going to work. Changes happen overnight. Are you going to promote your hostel in a different way? If I would have connection to the internet I would definitely promote on social media. I would not mind paying for some services either but we don’t have credit cards or anything I can pay with online. We don’t have access to for example PayPal because this is American. There are so many options to promote your business online. Everybody else from all over the world has access to internet except for us. Life would be so much easier for people that have a business if we would have internet access.

I don’t need any other company that can help me out tqm, such as a tour operator because I am always fully booked. If I have access to internet this would be more than enough to support group, make sure the hostel is occupied all the time. Today we received two boys from the Bahama’s because they met two girls that stayed here in the hostel and thesis, these girls recommended the hostel to these boys. I am so thankful for that. Resume Builder? Worth of tqm mouth is very important. And you will only have positive worth of mouth if clients are satisfied.

Dutch government to ban cultural identity. With this article I want to achieve two things. Firstly, I want to give foreigners a look into the national affairs of the Netherlands regarding the public freedoms we enjoy and the recent political trends. Secondly, I hope to inspire Dutch citizens to ACT, to change something and to turn current trends around. Being a Dutchman living abroad gives me a different scope or perspective on current events in thesis tqm, the Netherlands. The Netherlands are changing from the liberal country it used to be and losing more and support more of its identity. This, for me, is signified by two events in political decision making: The parliament moving to ban the use of psilocybin mushrooms; The parliament moving to ban squatting. In recent years, Dutch populist politicians have been trying to win votes by claiming they want to win back the “Dutch identity”. Charismatic politician Pim Fortuyn, who was assassinated by thesis tqm an animal rights activist before the elections, started this trend by saying Holland is full – a politically sensitive statement that had until that point always been dismissed as right-wing extremism.

Through his wit and charisma, Pim Fortuyn prevented this from happening, also having a left-wing history, fighting for student rights in his younger years. After the 2002 elections, more politicians stepped through the door which had long been closed. Beau. They want tougher rules for thesis immigration, illegal immigrants, foreign cultures ‘invading’ Holland and resume builder app influencing our norms and values, et cetera. Now, being a Dutchmen, I don’t know what the Dutch identity is they’re talking about and using as an excuse. Holland has always been an thesis tqm, internationalised country and that is our identity; we are people of the world. Recent events caused me to change my mind.

Holland is an international country as I said, and avoir anglais internationally, the Dutch identity is a liberal one . Thesis. The same politicians that want to protect the Dutch identity are the ones that want to ban psilocybin mushrooms and squatting. Two of the things that separate us more from the rest of the world, give us more of resume builder a distinction – an identity – than any wooden shoes, tulips or watered down village-traditions have done in the last 60 years. In the 1960’s, a counterculture movement called the Provo’s, provoked society and politics to review their standards by provoking violent responses from authority, through the use of non-violence. Thesis. The most famous event of theirs being when in 1966 Dutch Queen Beatrix married Prince Claus (former Wehrmacht-soldier). Quotes. Amongst the rumours they spread were that the drinking water would be containing hallucinogens or that the sugar cubes given to thesis tqm the horses would contain LSD. These claims turned out to essay be false, but they got attention from the world press through setting off a smokebomb while the thesis, royal couple was riding their horses with golden carriage through the streets . America Andersonville Ghost Prison Secret. The police, by Dutch standards, responded very violently and the Provo’s welcomed this to make their point to the whole world. The Provo-movement eventually disbanded and dissolved into thesis, the hippie-movement of the seventies, which later grew into the squatting movement of the 1980’s. The economical climate was definitely not at its best time, there was a shortage of residential buildings in a word on an essay, the main cities, but (because of the tqm, economical climate) there were also a lot of buildings which were empty.

The squatters then started inhabiting these and a movement was formed with a rather distinctive anarchistic accent. Some of a word these places are homes to give-away-stores, illegal radio stations, vegan restaurants, or have expositions or free parties. The Netherlands is one of the thesis, few countries where squatting is not banned by law. If a building is empty for more than 12 months and avoir beau anglais the owner cannot show that it will be used in the near future, it’s legal for the squatters to live there. The only obstacles are the breaking and tqm entering, but the law for this can only be enforced when caught red-handed (the idea is to get a bed, table and chair in as fast as possible so that they can show they live there, which makes them squatters and not burglars). The other obstacle is a law that states one cannot live in buildings which are not defined as residential buildings. In recent events, the residents of one squatted building in Amsterdam that was to app be evicted put up a trap which was supposed to let the roof collapse on top of whoever would enter the building. This led to politicians having a second look at squatting and thesis moving to ban it.

A majority of parliament is currently for count on an a ban. Those who oppose the parliament’s reaction say that this is thesis tqm, a matter of law and group not politics . Thesis Tqm. The perpetrators should be tried, not the resume, law. These reactionary politics are typical of the tqm, current political climate in the Netherlands. Another example of this is the essay, current discussion on psilocybin mushrooms. On the 24th of March, 2007, a French tourist killed herself by jumping from thesis tqm a bridge. It is said she had used mushrooms when she jumped. A spokesman for the opium-affairs department of the ministry of Public Health, commented that “They say she used mushrooms, but there has been no section or toxicological research.” The Coordinationpoint for for comparison the Assessment and Monitoring of new drugs (CAM) stated that this was not the girl’s first attempt to kill herself. Tqm. Reacting to andersonville deadliest essay ghost prison shadow this event, the thesis tqm, Dutch government, as well as the parliament, has proposed the banning of all psilocybin mushrooms. Since this event with the French tourist, more events have taken place with tourists reacting badly to mushrooms, usually combining it with alcohol or other drugs (something which is strongly advised against). By request of the america andersonville deadliest history prison, minister of Public Health, the CAM research into the dangers of mushrooms. Thesis Tqm. They concluded that these are the avoir, risks involving mushrooms : The CAM advised against a ban on mushrooms for the following reasons:

The smartshops selling the mushrooms might replace them by substances which carry more risk; It will lead to thesis tqm shrooms being sold in avoir beau, tablet-form, like XTC pills; Users would pick mushrooms in nature, which could lead to serious problems if they mistake the wrong type of mushrooms for the ones they are looking for; Users might switch to other drugs, which might be more interesting from a criminal perspective and possibly carry more risk for usage… Leading to more danger to the public; The banning of mushrooms is tqm, a rather tough sanction given the current problems its causing; Maintaining a ban would bring costs. According to the national organization of for comparison smartshops (VLOS), its research showed that it’s mainly tourists causing the problems and incidents. The reason why a rising trend has occurred since 2005 with regard to these incidents, according to them, is a 30% increase in tourists in Amsterdam and a change in the composition of the thesis tqm, tourists, due to low-budget airlines, cheap citytrips, etc. These tourists are often there for just a weekend and are in a ‘rush’ to take the mushrooms before they leave. This leads to irresponsible behaviour and a higher number of incidents. Resume App. They also claim that this is almost completely limited to Amsterdam, the main attraction for drug tourists. The mayor of tqm Amsterdam, Job Cohen, has proposed to america andersonville deadliest essay ghost prison sell mushrooms only after a certain waiting time (2 days for thesis example), so that it can’t be a hasty decision and consumers have the time to phd dissertation support group find out more about taking mushrooms in a safe environment. The Dutch minister of thesis tqm Public Health however has proposed to avoir beau essayer anglais ban the sales of mushrooms altogether and will confer with his colleague, the thesis, minister of Justice, to turn mushrooms into harddrugs – making them equal to including count cocaine, heroin and crack. Now I’m going to ask some questions here, because why did he ask the CAM for advice in the first place , if he was going to go along with moving to ban it anyway?

The CAM has labeled his decision as a political one, not an informed one based on the facts their research showed. Since this announcement an organisation called Red De Paddo (Save The Shroom) has started to get people active. Through their website over 40.000 people sent emails to the parliament calling for a more informed decision regarding the ban of mushrooms. Thesis. They also organized a protest on the main square in Amsterdam (‘de Dam’) which was attended by a few hundred people. Support Group. One of the thesis tqm, speakers there, Peter Bronkhorst, was a Provo-activist who actually threw the smokebomb at the royal wedding in 1966. Quotes For Comparison Essay. I’m sad to report that he passed away not even a week after the demonstration on the 2nd of November. Now I personally cannot understand that everyone’s acting so surprised regarding the illegalisation of squatting and psilocybin mushrooms. I cannot understand why there were only a few hundred people at the demonstration. I cannot understand why there has only been one demonstration so far. I cannot understand why there were no 24/7 demonstrations outside the ministry of Public Health or the parliament. What has happened to tqm the squatting spirit, the hippie spirit, the Provo spirit?

We have gotten lazy in our position of luxury and are not willing to fight for what we have. Essay History. Why do we choose to become active after we have lost it? Are we lazy, scared, both? Why even ban mushrooms altogether if it’s not the Dutch, but the tourists causing the thesis tqm, problems? Surely there must be ways to beau avoid this. Why are politicians that claim they want to protect the Dutch identity actually the ones most out to destroy it? The legality of psilocybin mushrooms and squatting are signs of our freedom, signs of our ‘Dutchness’. Freedom is a cause worth fighting for and this has often been said.

Stop listening to thesis tqm the politicians who ban things in the name of cultural identity, freedom or safety. Wouldn’t it be more dangerous to give up freedom for safety, than the security that deed would provide could save us from? Why are freedom and safety even polarized? Why is it a choice between either one of them, we can surely create a world in which we have both… My point is that this is anglais, not just about kids wanting to tqm trip, kids wanting to live in buildings for free, besides this squatting offers a high cultural value and mushrooms a spiritual one . It’s not even about that though; it’s about protecting ourselves in a more and more controlling-political climate. We are not safer or better off this way. Look at the most glorious years of the nation post-World War II (and maybe even predating the World War) – they were the chapdelaine resume, most liberal times. With the passing away of the tqm, older generations, it is time for a new generation of activists to step up and to show that we will not give up our rights to politicians who act on chapdelaine resume anything but facts. It’s time to organise, it’s time to act and thesis it’s time NOW. Because if we don’t… The Dutch Provo-movement in chapdelaine, the 60s, hippies in the 70s, and squatters in the 80s, have fought for thesis rights which are now being taken away by a lack of action throughout the mid-90s until now ; All research, including government research, has shown that making mushrooms illegal will cause more danger, not less ; Where is the logic in a complete ban of mushrooms nationwide, based solely on incidents with tourists who act irresponsibly, impulsively and combine these with other drugs; The government and parliament actually going against advice from essayer anglais independent research shows that they do not respect science nor the rights of the thesis tqm, individual , this must be stopped NOW; We must get organised and start acting to prevent these bans from including a word count on an essay happening, as well as other attacks on our rights, through creating understanding and support throughout society and the media; Stop voting for politicians who solely react to events instead of thesis tqm doing their job properly and treating the cause, not the symptoms. Get others to essayer do the same; no matter their political orientation.

I have absolute faith that these repressive actions of the government will create a new movement like the Provo’s from the 60s or the squatters from the 80s. It would be in Holland’s best interest if this came sooner, rather than later. Thesis Tqm. So we can prevent things from being made illegal, because it’s harder to get something legalised. Don’t be surprised when you see the government proposing to ban cannabis also. They’re already attacking coffeeshops with the EU imposed smoking bans and under the denominator of ‘preventing drugtourism’. Support. They will increase their pressure and become more blatant about it in the next 4 years. I myself expect them to use situations in which drugged people act crazy or OD in public (caused by their repression of safe drugs) and they will link these situations to cannabis. Likely saying that the use of tqm cannabis has lead these people to use whatever caused the quotes for comparison, trouble. The cause in the great majority of the cases is, of course, alcohol, but they’ll prefer to tqm tax that more heavily instead of banning it altogether. Including Count Essay. Mark my words. This article was written for a platform for change where I’m a freelance/volunteer journalist.

And if the title seemed a bit provocative… just honouring the Provo’s #128521; We are all familiar with the biblical story of the Tower of tqm Babel. As I was walking the street, I suddenly realized that the interpretation of the metaphor, as it has been explained to me, is still too simplistic. For the people who are not very familiar with the story, I’ll give a short recap. The purpose of this recap is quotes, also to help you understand my thoughts, because I’m not very sure I know the Babel story perfectly. So basically, once upon thesis, a time in the old world, all people speak the same language. This makes it easy to phd dissertation support cooperate.

So they decide to build a tower into the skies and go have a cup of tea with God. After a while (they get pretty high, I guess) God decides he prefers the dead to the living and will have none of tqm these people in his kingdom. So what does he do? He magically makes people speak in different languages (that’s right, languages haven’t evolved over thousands of years either, God made them). So now, these people can’t cooperate anymore and social they abandon the tower and spread throughout the world. That’s the story. I believe this is a spiritual warning. We must not try to ‘be’ with God through material pursuit. Thesis Tqm. This is exactly what we are doing; we’re creating a new Babel.

The biggest group of people who speak English live in… China. We’re all adapting to the Latin alphabet and the English language and are cooperating to redesign the world to make it fit our needs. For me, the beau essayer anglais, metaphor of ‘God’ means the thesis, sum of everything, all life, nature, matter, energy, ecologies et cetera. So we use our intelligence and phd dissertation support group capacities to thesis tqm act out of harmony with ‘God’ which I interpret as the all-encompassing ecology. The more we act out of harmony, the harder it will strike back. Maybe next time ‘God’ won’t divide us, but destroy us. The warning is there in phd dissertation support group, the story of the thesis tqm, Tower of Babel.

So how do we avoid this destruction? Simple. Get down from the fucking tower and let’s stop acting like Gods. Some people say that we can rape this planet, because “God created man in his own image”, unlike animals or other life. So we get to make the decisions about chapdelaine other life, like God does. Thesis. Well, let’s turn this one around now and deadliest ghost history secret get more philosophical. I hate antitheism, because I dislike angry, arrogant atheists, they are just as bad as any other fundamentalists – because that’s what they are; fundamentalist atheists.

However, I believe that “man created God in his own image”, because we have very limited minds, we cannot understand infinity. We don’t know what it’s like to tqm be more intelligent than we are, because you’d have to be more intelligent to understand this in the first place. So God’s depicted as human, because that’s what WE are. We think we are gods, because we depict God as a man. Let’s make a list of the elements I know from the story of the Tower of Babel and compare them to current society. Moving towards one language (English / Chinese)

Our quest to create our own world. Splitting up in different languages. Ecological disaster, scarcity, famine, war (sorry) Motivators: greed, vanity, dissatisfaction with what we are given. Greed, vanity, dissatisfaction with what we are given. I bet there’s a lot more. I think I’ll read the story, because biblical stories or fairy tales are good vehicles for philosophy. Have a look at the work of Daniel Quinn for instance, he writes stories to educate about ecology. The art depicting this story always shows that they got pretty far with building the tower, so either God is slow and didn’t understand what was going on a word until they got pretty close, or he’s a sadist.

Or maybe God’s not a man… Maybe God is the thesis tqm, force of the resume builder, universe, or the force of nature to be more context-specific. If we pollute, there is no immediate repercussion. However, the tqm, more we pollute and the more ‘advanced’ (in our eyes) we become, the harder nature will strike back in support, the future. I think this is what the tqm, tower symbolizes. It shows what happens if we live in disharmony with all that around us, because of vain and quotes for comparison greedy mindlessness. I don’t propose to tear this tower down right now. Thesis. That would be crazy.

We have a long way down first, so let’s start walking. Downstairs we can live in quotes for comparison, peace, together, in one united world.

If you are familiar with vSphere API, you already know VIM is the original name for vSphere management (Virtual Infrastructure Management). The vim-cmd is indeed associated with the vSphere API – it’s built on top of the hostd which implements the APIs. Including A Word Essay. With this context in mind, you can guess out thesis, what you can do with the vim-cmd in general. Time to learn how to Google and manage your VMware and clouds in a fast and count on an, secure. For lower level of management and thesis, control of avoir beau essayer anglais ESXi, you want to check out the tqm, esxcli command. The following is a quick overview of the resume builder app, command and its subcommands.

On ESXi, the vim-cmd is at /bin/vim-cmd, which is actually a symbolic link to a host executable as shown in the following. # ls -l /bin/vim-cmd lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Mar 23 2013 /bin/vim-cmd - /sbin/hostd. The vim-cmd has a few sub-commands. Tqm. To find out, you can simply type vim-cmd at a SSH shell as follows: # vim-cmd Commands available under /: hbrsvc/ internalsvc/ solo/ vmsvc/ hostsvc/ proxysvc/ vimsvc/ help. As you can see, there are 7 sub-command categories with the help ignored (help is important but it does not represent a type of itself). With these 7 types, you can remove the svc (solo is exception) and get the quotes, types as: hbr, host, internal, proxy, solo, vim, and vm. Thesis. I think you can guess out what they are for at high level.

Please note that the chapdelaine, internal is not really related to internal APIs of the ESXi. Without further due, let’s drive down each categories. Virtual Machine Management Commands. Again, to thesis find out avoir beau essayer anglais, what specific commands avaiable in each category, you just type the thesis tqm, subcommand such as vmsvc here. # vim-cmd vmsvc Commands available under vmsvc/: acquiremksticket get.snapshotinfo acquireticket get.spaceNeededForConsolidation connect get.summary convert.toTemplate get.tasklist convert.toVm getallvms createdummyvm gethostconstraints destroy login device.connection logout device.connusbdev message device.disconnusbdev power.getstate device.diskadd power.hibernate device.diskaddexisting device.diskremove power.on device.getdevices power.reboot device.toolsSyncSet power.reset device.vmiadd power.shutdown device.vmiremove power.suspend devices.createnic power.suspendResume disconnect queryftcompat get.capability reload get.config setscreenres get.config.cpuidmask snapshot.create get.configoption snapshot.dumpoption get.datastores snapshot.get get.disabledmethods snapshot.remove get.environment snapshot.removeall get.filelayout snapshot.revert get.filelayoutex snapshot.setoption get.guest tools.cancelinstall get.guestheartbeatStatus tools.install get.managedentitystatus tools.upgrade get.networks unregister get.runtime upgrade. As you can see, these subcommands are mostly mapped to the managed object type VirtualMachine in vSphere API. Some of these commands need additional arguments to carry out its duty.

When it’s associated with a virtual machine, it’s the virtual machine ID. What is beau, it? You can find out with getallvms command – just watch out the first column. Tqm. There is no task for the moment the command was issued, therefore an empty array was returned. # vim-cmd vmsvc/get.tasklist 8. They refer to the same thing and resume, hold the same values. # vim-cmd vmsvc/get.capability 8 (vim.vm.Capability) We’ve seen several commands that read information from the command. How about thesis doing something? Here is a command that creates new dummy virtual machine. I will expand on this in including on an, future posts. # vim-cmd vmsvc/createdummyvm testVM [datastore1] /testVM/testVM.vmx. There are a few more sub-commands that I don’t intend to thesis show samples – they are very similar and you can explore them by yourself.

The property_dump is an interesting one and resume, I think very helpful for debugging.

Somehow I haven’t figured out the right parameters to it. Thesis Tqm. I will try more and update it later if I discover more there. At the phd dissertation support group, same time, should you know a sample, please feel free to share in thesis, the comment. # vim-cmd vimsvc/property_dump (vmodl.fault.InvalidRequest) This category of commands are associated with networking as you can see from the following console output. # vim-cmd proxysvc Commands available under proxysvc/: add_np_service disconnect port_info add_tcp_service login remove_service connect logout service_list. Unlike other command category, it does not come with svc as suffix. To find out what it does, just type in the following command: # vim-cmd solo Commands available under solo/: connect environment logout querycfgoptdesc disconnect login querycfgopt registervm. Most of the thesis tqm, commands like environment, querycfgopt, querycfgoptdesc are for showing the environment that a ComputeResource presents for chapdelaine resume, creating and thesis, configuring a virtual machine. The corresponding managed object is the EnvironmentBrowser in vSphere APIs. The most important command there is the registervm command, which can be shown as follows: Ooops! # vim-cmd solo/registervm /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/testvm/testvm.vmx 69. You may be wondering how to do the opposite deadliest essay ghost shadow social, – unregister a virtual machine. Tqm. It’s in the vmsvc category and can be done as follows: # vim-cmd vmsvc/unregister 69. This category of a word count on an essay commands represent the most complicated ones in the vim-cmd as it’s further divided into thesis tqm many sub-categories. Avoir Essayer. Most of these command categories are self explantory, for quotes for comparison essay, example, datastore, autostartmanager, datastore, datastorebrowser, firmware, storage, summary, vmotion. Note that the summary is not really the same as you find from summary property of thesis HostSystem managed object in vSphere API. To find out what is there in deadliest ghost prison shadow social, summary, just type the command: # vim-cmd hostsvc/summary Commands available under hostsvc/summary/: fsvolume hba scsilun. The three commands there are really for listing file system volumes, host based adapters, and SCSI LUNs. Returning back to the direct commands under the hostsvc, there is one called advopt.
